Chapter 14 - The First Lesson - The Hidden Eye

Tez stood at the doorway of his hut.

The cool night breeze moved through the trees.

The courtyard was empty.

Only the small oil lamps burned quietly along the stone path.

For a few moments, he wondered if he had imagined everything.

Then he looked back inside his hut.

His sleeping mat had been moved.

The wooden shelf where he had kept his water pot was slightly out of place.

Someone had been inside.

Someone had searched the room.

Tez quickly touched the leather pouch hidden beneath his clothes.

It was still there.

He let out a slow breath.

"They didn't find it."

Just then, footsteps approached.

It was Naman, carrying a small lamp.

"Tez, what happened? I heard your voice."

"I think someone entered my hut."

Naman looked around carefully.

"Did you see who it was?"

Tez shook his head.

"No. The person was too fast."

Naman frowned.

"We should tell Acharya Vedant."

Without wasting another moment, the two boys hurried across the quiet gurukul.

Acharya Vedant and Rishi Anand were still awake.

They sat beneath the old peepal tree, speaking softly.

When they saw the boys, they immediately stood.

"What is it?" Acharya Vedant asked.

Tez explained everything.

He described the shadow, the disturbed room, and the sound of running footsteps.

Neither teacher interrupted him.

When he finished, silence filled the air.

Finally, Rishi Anand spoke.

"Did the stranger take anything?"

"No."

"Did he see the leather pouch?"

"I don't think so."

The sage closed his eyes for a moment.

"That is good."

Acharya Vedant looked towards the dark forest.

"The strangers who arrived yesterday..."

"You think they are connected?" Tez asked.

"It is possible," the Acharya replied.

"But until we know the truth, we must stay calm."

Rishi Anand looked at Tez.

"From tonight onward, never leave the pouch alone."

"I won't."

"And trust no one outside this gurukul."

Tez nodded.

"I understand."

The next morning, nothing seemed different.

Students laughed together.

Teachers explained lessons.

The kitchen filled with the smell of fresh bread and vegetables.

Yet beneath the peaceful routine, both Rishi Anand and Acharya Vedant were alert.

Without telling the students, two senior disciples quietly began watching the forest paths.

No one would enter the gurukul unnoticed again.

After breakfast, Acharya Vedant gathered everyone beneath the peepal tree.

"Today," he said, "we begin a lesson that cannot be learned with the eyes."

The students sat in a circle.

"You will learn to quiet your minds."

Veer whispered to Keshav,

"How can sitting quietly be a lesson?"

The Acharya smiled.

"I heard that."

The students laughed.

"Many people believe silence is empty."

He gently shook his head.

"But silence is full of answers."

He asked everyone to close their eyes.

"Breathe slowly."

"Do not chase your thoughts."

"Simply watch them."

Tez tried.

At first, he heard only birds singing.

The wind moving through the trees.

The sound of leaves falling.

Then...

Another sound.

The village alarm.

The cries of frightened people.

His breathing became faster.

He saw flames.

Smoke.

His father calling his name.

"Tez!"

He saw Mira reaching towards him.

Then everything disappeared into darkness.

Suddenly, another memory appeared.

A memory he had forgotten.

Two masked men were standing near the temple in Suryanagari.

One said,

"Search every house."

The other replied,

"The Eternal Flame must never awaken."

Then the memory ended.

Tez opened his eyes with a gasp.

Sweat covered his forehead.

Acharya Vedant looked at him calmly.

"What did you see?"

Tez took a deep breath.

"I remembered something."

He repeated the words exactly.

"The Eternal Flame must never awaken."

Rishi Anand's expression changed.

Only for a moment.

But Tez noticed.

"You know what it means, don't you?"

The sage remained silent.

Finally, he answered,

"I know those words are older than you can imagine."

"What is the Eternal Flame?"

"Not today."

Tez sighed.

"You always say that."

Rishi Anand smiled gently.

"And one day you will understand why."

That afternoon, the students practised balance by walking across fallen tree trunks over a shallow stream.

Veer crossed quickly.

Keshav slipped twice, making everyone laugh.

When it was Tez's turn, he remembered the old bridge from the forest.

He fixed his eyes on the other side.

One step.

Then another.

Slowly but surely, he crossed without falling.

Acharya Vedant nodded with approval.

"You are beginning to understand."

"What?"

"That the greatest battles are fought inside the mind."

As the sun set, Tez sat alone near the edge of the forest.

He held the leather pouch in his hands.

"So many people died because of you," he whispered to it.

"What are you hiding?"

For a moment, he almost opened it.

His fingers touched the knot.

Then he remembered his father's face.

'Never open it unless the right person asks for it.'

Tez closed his eyes and tied the knot tightly again.

"I gave my word."

"I won't break it."

Hidden behind a tree, Rishi Anand watched quietly.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"The boy is ready to carry the burden," he said softly.

"But not yet the truth."

Far from the gurukul, deep inside a dark cave, three men knelt before a tall figure wearing a long black cloak.

The cave walls were covered with the same blazing sun symbol Tez had seen on the ancient stone pillar.

But someone had drawn a black circle across it.

The symbol of light had been turned into a mark of darkness.

"The search failed," one man said.

"The pouch is still with the boy."

The cloaked leader remained silent.

After a long pause, he spoke.

His voice was calm, but filled with cold anger.

"So..."

"The last heir still lives."

One of the men lowered his head.

"What are your orders?"

The leader slowly unfolded an old map.

His finger stopped on one place.

Gurukul Tapovan.

He smiled.

"Prepare everyone."

"This time..."

"...we do not search."

"We take the boy."

The torches inside the cave flickered as a cold wind entered through the narrow passage.

Far away, in the peaceful gurukul, Tez looked up at the same night sky.

He had no idea that before another moon had passed...

The enemies of the Guardians of the Eternal Flame would come looking for him.
