Chapter 2 - **Aftermath**

Yuna stared at the white ceiling of the medical tent, the faint beeps of the heart monitor mixing with the distant roar of the Comic Con Japan crowd outside. Her head still throbbed, a dull ache that made every flash of memory sharper: the cold bottle in her hand, the sweet taste of orange juice, and then that twisted, perverted smile hovering over her like a shadow from her own cosplay.

A female police officer named Detective Sato sat beside the cot, notepad open. "Take your time, Takahashi-san. Can you tell me what happened from the beginning?"

Yuna's voice came out hoarse. "I blocked him on Instagram two days ago. The messages were… disgusting. Then today, he just appeared. Same costume. Same character. He said he wanted a duo photo. I told him we just met, but he kept pushing the juice. He drank from it first. Said it was safe."

Detective Sato nodded, her expression serious. "We have the bottle. Preliminary tests show traces of a sedative—likely Rohypnol mixed with something stronger. He didn't drink enough to feel it, or he's built tolerance. Classic trick. The security footage and witness statements match your story. He's being held at the station now."

Yuna closed her eyes, relief mixing with anger. "How did he find me? I never replied. I never told anyone my exact plans."

"We're looking into that. He could have used con registration data, followed your stories, or even attended previous events. These types are patient." Detective Sato leaned forward. "You're lucky those cosplayers reacted fast. The girl in the rival mage outfit—her name is Mio—said she recognized you from Instagram and thought the interaction looked wrong."

A soft knock came at the tent flap. Mio stepped in, still in her dark purple costume, her face pale with worry. Behind her stood the armored guy, now without his helmet, and the other girl from their group.

"Hey… how are you feeling?" Mio asked gently, sitting on the edge of a chair. "We saw him leaning in with that weird smile. It gave me chills. We started recording right away."

Yuna managed a weak smile. "Thank you. If you hadn't shouted… I don't know what would have happened."

The armored guy, who introduced himself as Kenji, crossed his arms. "That creep tried to play it off like you were just dizzy from the heat. But no one buys that when someone collapses that fast. Security grabbed him before he could drag you farther."

Mio pulled out her phone. "I already posted a quick story warning people—without naming you, of course. Just 'Watch your drinks at cons. Buddy system is real.' The cosplay community needs to know."

Yuna sat up slowly, the IV tugging at her arm. The nausea was fading, but the fear lingered like a bad aftertaste. "I thought cosplay was supposed to be fun. Meeting people who love the same anime… not this."

Detective Sato stood. "We'll need you to come to the station tomorrow for a formal statement. In the meantime, rest. And Takahashi-san—change your Instagram settings if you haven't. Make it private for a while. We'll keep you updated on the case."

As the officer left, Yuna's friends stayed. Mio squeezed her hand. "You're not alone in this. A lot of us have gotten weird DMs. Some girls have stories worse than this. Maybe it's time we did something about it."

Kenji nodded. "There's a group chat for cosplayers who help each other at events. Safety tips, ride shares, that kind of thing. You should join."

Yuna looked at her costume, still rumpled from the fall. The silver wig lay on a nearby table, strands tangled. She had poured so much love into this Elara outfit—hours of sewing, styling, and practicing poses. Now it felt tainted.

But underneath the fear, something else stirred. Anger. Resolve.

"I don't want to stop cosplaying," she said quietly. "But I'm not letting one creep take that from me. Or from anyone else."

Mio smiled. "Then let's make sure the next con is safer. Starting with exposing how easy it is for these guys to blend in."

Outside the tent, the convention continued—laughter, music, excited voices calling character names. Life went on. But for Yuna, the day had shifted. The shadows in *Eclipse Veil* weren't just on screen anymore.

They had stepped into her world.
