"Elena just called me," Gerald said, his voice coming through the speaker smooth and calculating. "She told me everything you purchased. Every single item."
I rolled my eyes, a wave of disgust washing over me. It seemed Gerald was just as creepy as Caelan. Neither of them knew how to respect privacy, and both of them treated me like a pawn to be monitored twenty-four-seven.
"I am happy you are taking my advice into use," Gerald continued, sounding entirely pleased with himself. "You need to secure your position in that house, Sloane. A child ensures that. I am glad you finally see the logic in what I told you."
"I am just doing what is necessary," I said coldly, refusing to give him the satisfaction of a longer explanation.
"Good. Keep doing it," he said, and hung up.
I stared at the black screen for a second, then tossed the phone aside. I didn't care about his approval, but I was going to use his advice to baseline my survival.
