Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Springfield Exploration

Kevin woke up refreshed in his room at the Springfield Inn. The luxurious bed and quiet atmosphere had done wonders after the long drive and busy previous days. He took a quick shower, changed into casual clothes, and headed down for breakfast. The receptionist was working the front desk again and gave him a bright, friendly wave as he passed. He returned it with a polite nod before enjoying a surprisingly good hotel meal.

After breakfast, he decided to spend the day exploring Springfield. He wanted to get a feel for the city where he planned to open his second Krusty Krab branch.

His first stop was the Kwik-E-Mart. The familiar green and red sign greeted him as he parked. Inside, the store was bustling with locals. Behind the counter stood a man named Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, organizing cigarettes with practiced efficiency.

Apu looked up as Kevin approached the counter with a few snacks and drinks. "Hello, sir! Welcome to the Kwik-E-Mart. You look new around here, first time I've seen your face. Are you visiting or moving in?"

Kevin smiled. "A bit of both. I'm planning to open a business here, a restaurant branch."

Apu's eyes lit up with interest. "Ah, excellent! Springfield always needs more dining options. Though I must warn you the business scene here can be… competitive. Moe's Tavern dominates the bar scene, the Krusty Burger on Elm Street has been closed for months due to health code violations, and there's constant rivalry with Shelbyville. If you're opening something new, make sure your food is actually edible. Last month, a new sushi place closed after three days because they were using three-eyed fish from the river."

Kevin chuckled. "Noted. Thanks for the local gossip."

Apu gave him a knowing wink. "Anytime, my friend. Good luck with your venture!"

Kevin paid for his items and left the Kwik-E-Mart with a better sense of the local business landscape. He made a mental note to be extra careful with food quality and regulations.

Next, he drove to the Springfield Mall. The massive complex was bustling with shoppers. Kevin spent nearly two hours browsing. He found several useful items for both the new branch and the farm: advanced kitchen equipment from a BnL outlet, high-tech refrigeration units, and even some specialized farming tools. He also picked up a few luxury items for the house and some promotional materials he could adapt for the restaurant. The sheer variety and advanced technology available here impressed him, this city had potential.

After the mall, he stopped by Android's Dungeon, the local comic book store. Comic Book Guy was behind the counter, looking as bored and judgmental as ever.

"Welcome to the Android's Dungeon," he droned. "Home of the rarest back issues and the most disappointing new releases."

Kevin browsed the shelves and found a few interesting comics and manuals related to cartoon physics and Toon Force. He bought a couple, thinking they might give him useful insights for his upcoming training with Roger Rabbit.

As he drove around the city, he passed several iconic locations. He saw the towering Springfield Nuclear Power Plant in the distance. He even drove past Moe's Tavern but decided not to stop. There would be time for that later.

His final stop of the day was the local wet market. The place was lively and chaotic, filled with vendors shouting prices and customers haggling. What caught Kevin's attention immediately were the strange seafood displays. He saw the infamous three-eyed yellow fish floating in tanks, their extra eye blinking lazily. There were also glowing fish, fish with two arms, and other bizarre aquatic creatures that defied normal biology.

Kevin spent some time talking to vendors, learning about local ingredients and what might work well for his restaurant. He bought a few samples of unusual seafood to experiment with later, thinking they could become signature items at the new branch.

By the time he returned to the Springfield Inn, the sun had set. He flopped onto the bed, exhausted but satisfied with the day's exploration.

Tomorrow he would meet with Roger Rabbit to begin his Toon Force training, and the renovation of the new Krusty Krab location would officially start.
