GODFALL ORDER
CHAPTER 2 — "THE THING THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST"
The forest screamed.
Not with sound—but with movement.
Branches snapped. The ground cracked. The air itself felt unstable.
The corrupted beast stood before them, its distorted body shifting as if it couldn't decide what shape to take. Its core pulsed violently, leaking raw Veyra into the surroundings.
This wasn't a minor beast.
This wasn't even something that should be here.
"…Retreat!" the squad leader shouted.
But no one moved.
Fear had already taken hold.
Another trainee lunged forward, forcing Veyra into his blade.
"MOVE!"
His strike landed—
—and shattered.
Not the beast.
His weapon.
The blade cracked on impact, splintering as if it had struck something far denser than stone.
The beast didn't even react.
Then it moved.
A blur.
A body dropped.
Silence.
Then screaming.
Kael watched.
Not frozen.
Not panicked.
Just… watching.
His eyes followed the beast's movements, slow and steady, like he was trying to understand something rather than survive it.
"…It's wrong," he muttered.
The beast turned again.
Its eyeless face locked onto him.
And once more—
It hesitated.
"Why is it doing that?" someone shouted.
"Why isn't it attacking him?!"
"I don't know—just kill it!"
Three trainees rushed together, their Veyra flaring as they attacked from different angles.
For a moment, it looked coordinated.
For a moment, it looked like they had a chance.
Then—
The air twisted.
Their movements slowed.
Not physically.
Perceptually.
Like their timing had fallen out of sync.
The beast stepped forward.
One strike.
Two.
Three.
Bodies fell.
Kael exhaled slowly.
"Yeah…" he said quietly. "Definitely not normal."
The pressure in his chest grew stronger.
It wasn't painful.
It wasn't even uncomfortable.
It felt… familiar.
Like something that had been silent for a long time was finally reacting.
"Kael! MOVE!"
A hand grabbed his arm, yanking him back.
A girl—one of the trainees—pulled him away just as the beast's limb crashed down where he had been standing.
The ground shattered.
Kael blinked.
"…Thanks."
"Are you insane?!" she snapped. "You were just standing there!"
Kael glanced back at the beast.
"It wasn't going to hit me."
"…What?"
He didn't answer.
Because he wasn't sure why he had said that.
INSTABILITY
The beast moved again.
Faster now.
More violent.
Like something had agitated it.
Instructor Marek stepped forward, his Veyra surging violently.
"Fall back!" he ordered.
The remaining trainees didn't hesitate this time.
They ran.
Marek didn't.
His body lowered slightly, stance firm.
"Stay behind me if you want to live," he said.
Kael didn't move.
His eyes were still locked on the beast.
"…You feel it too, don't you?" he murmured.
The beast's core pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Then violently.
The surrounding Veyra started to fluctuate.
Wildly.
VEYRA DISRUPTION
"Something's wrong…" Marek muttered.
His expression hardened.
"This area… the Veyra is unstable."
The ground beneath them cracked further, glowing lines spreading like veins.
The beast let out a low, distorted sound.
Then—
It changed.
Its form twisted, expanding unnaturally.
Limbs elongated.
Its core brightened.
Too bright.
"…That's not possible," Marek said under his breath.
"That's not a natural evolution."
Kael took a step forward.
Marek's eyes snapped toward him.
"Stop!"
But Kael didn't listen.
The pressure in his chest spiked.
His heartbeat slowed.
Then steadied.
Everything around him felt… clearer.
The chaos.
The fear.
The noise.
It all faded.
INSTINCT
The beast lunged.
Time didn't slow.
But Kael moved first.
Not because he was faster.
But because—
He already knew.
His body shifted slightly.
Just enough.
The attack missed.
Barely.
The ground behind him exploded.
The shockwave threw nearby trainees off their feet.
Marek's eyes widened.
"…What?"
Kael looked down at his hand.
Faint energy flickered around it.
Unstable.
Uncontrolled.
But responding.
The beast froze.
Again.
Its entire body trembled slightly.
Like it was trying to understand him.
Like it couldn't.
Kael smiled faintly.
"…You're confused too, huh?"
The air around him distorted again.
Slightly stronger this time.
The cracks in the ground reacted.
Not breaking—
Responding.
SOMETHING IS WRONG
Marek stepped forward instantly, grabbing Kael and pulling him back.
"Enough!" he snapped.
"You're not ready for this!"
Kael blinked.
The feeling faded slightly.
The clarity disappeared.
The world returned.
Loud.
Chaotic.
Real.
The beast roared.
Louder than before.
Violent.
Unstable.
Then—
It turned.
And retreated.
Crashing through the forest, disappearing into the ruins.
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Unnatural silence.
"…It ran," one trainee whispered.
"That thing… ran away?"
Marek didn't respond.
His eyes were fixed on Kael.
Sharp.
Calculating.
"…What did you do?"
Kael scratched his head.
"Nothing."
That wasn't a lie.
But it wasn't the truth either.
AFTERMATH
The forest felt different now.
Quieter.
Watching.
The surviving trainees stood frozen, trying to process what had just happened.
Bodies lay scattered across the ground.
The mission had collapsed.
Completely.
Marek turned away slowly.
"…We're returning."
No one argued.
As they began moving back toward the academy, Kael walked in silence.
His expression had returned to normal.
Lazy.
Unbothered.
But inside—
Something had changed.
Not awakened.
Not yet.
But noticed.
Far away… deep within the Ruin Zones—
Something stirred.
Not the beast.
Something older.
Something that did not react to Veyra.
But to something beyond it.
And for the first time in a very long time—
It paid attention.
