But the ancient reptile seemed to read the toddler's predatory calculations perfectly. The exact microsecond the cub lunged forward to bite down, the turtle smoothly and instantly retracted its tail deep within the safety of its carapace.
Chomping down on nothing but thin air, the confused cub began frantically batting at the edge of the shell, trying to dig around the armor to locate the missing appendage.
