Euphoria pondered the concept for a moment before clarifying, "They are creatures that are half-human and half-fish."
"I have heard tales of such merfolk, though I have never encountered one myself," Luce replied.
Euphoria was genuinely startled; she hadn't truly expected mermaids to exist within this primeval world!
Right at that moment, Wayne breached the ocean surface once more, a second fish clamped tightly in his jaws. The creature thrashed weakly a few times before going completely still.
Wayne waded onto the beach, tossed his fresh catch onto the dry sand, and vigorously shook the salt water from his thick fur.
As Euphoria observed him, she noticed a dark, strange shape clinging to his coat.
"Wayne, hold still. You have something hitched to your side," she pointed out, gesturing toward his flank.
Wayne blinked in confusion, craning his neck to look. Sure enough, a dark silhouette was tangled in his fur.
