Chapter 85
Hayes hadn't mentioned his desire to mate again since that day, and his behavior toward her remained so unchanged that Euphoria gradually let the confession slip from her mind.
One afternoon, she was napping with the cubs when she groggily opened her eyes to see a shadow looming over her. Her heart hammered against her ribs until she realized it was only Hayes. Relaxing back into the furs, she noticed her side was empty.
"I let them go out to play," Hayes said, his voice level.
Euphoria stretched and sat up. As she moved, her shoulder-length hair shifted, fully exposing the red scars on her cheek and neck. Hayes's brow furrowed. He stepped forward and cupped her face with his massive hand.
Euphoria froze in the middle of reaching for her shoes. His palm was calloused and radiating a heat so intense it felt as though the air around them was simmering.
"Don't move," he commanded softly when she tried to pull away.
