​Euphoria's escape plan was counterintuitive: she would continue running south.

​She knew the eagle-beast's sense of smell was weak compared to other orcs. He would likely assume she'd try to return home and search north first. Furthermore, if the ghost beast leader was hunting her, he would be coming from the north; heading back now would be walking straight into his maw. Her best bet was to hide in the south until the danger passed.

​After scrambling down the ancient tree, she pushed herself through the night. By dawn, she found a stream to quench her thirst and ate the leftover roasted meat the eagle had kindly—if ironically—prepared for her. She didn't dare linger. She walked until her legs threatened to give out, driven by the knowledge that the eagle's injury would grounded him for at least two days.
