Chapter 1 - chapter 1

In a quiet corner of the world, hidden between rolling hills and dense forests, lay a mysterious place known as Evergreen Valley. The villagers who lived nearby believed the valley held secrets older than time itself. Strange whispers were often heard at night, and shadows seemed to move even when there was no wind. Because of this, no one dared to enter the valley after sunset.

However, there was one boy who was not afraid.

His name was Ethan.

Ethan was a curious and brave fourteen-year-old who loved adventures. While others feared the unknown, he felt drawn to it. Ever since he was a child, he had heard stories about Evergreen Valley—stories of hidden treasures, lost spirits, and magical creatures. Instead of feeling scared, these tales made him even more interested.

One day, unable to control his curiosity any longer, Ethan decided to explore the valley.

It was early morning when he set out. The sun was just rising, painting the sky with shades of orange and pink. Birds were chirping, and the air felt fresh and calm. Ethan packed a small bag with food, a flashlight, a notebook, and a compass. He told his parents he was going for a walk, but he did not mention where.

As he approached the valley, the atmosphere slowly changed. The bright sunlight faded behind thick trees, and a cool breeze brushed against his face. The cheerful sounds of birds were replaced by an eerie silence. It was as if the valley itself was watching him.

Still, Ethan moved forward.

The deeper he went, the stranger things became. He noticed unusual symbols carved into tree trunks. Some looked like ancient writing, while others resembled strange creatures. He carefully drew them in his notebook, thinking they might be important.

Suddenly, he heard a whisper.

"Ethan…"

He froze.

His heart started beating faster. He looked around, but there was no one there.

"Who's there?" he called out, his voice trembling slightly.

No answer.

For a moment, he thought he had imagined it. But then the whisper came again, clearer this time.

"Follow the path…"

Ethan noticed a narrow trail he hadn't seen before. It was covered in fallen leaves and almost hidden. After a moment of hesitation, he decided to follow it.

The path led him to an old, abandoned stone structure deep within the forest. It looked like a ruin of an ancient temple. Vines had grown over its walls, and the entrance was dark and silent.

Ethan stepped inside.

The air was cold and still. As he walked further, his flashlight revealed faded murals on the walls. They showed scenes of people worshipping something—a glowing orb floating in the sky.

At the center of the temple, he found a pedestal.

On it rested a small, shining crystal.

It glowed softly, casting a gentle light around the room.

Ethan felt strangely connected to it. As he reached out and touched the crystal, a sudden rush of energy filled the room. The walls began to shimmer, and the whispers grew louder.

Visions flashed before his eyes.

He saw the valley as it once was—full of life, with people living peacefully. The crystal was their source of power and protection. But one day, greed took over. Some tried to use the crystal's power for themselves, causing chaos and destruction.

To protect the valley, the guardians sealed the crystal away, leaving only whispers to guide someone worthy.

The vision ended.

Ethan stepped back, breathing heavily.

"So… that's the secret," he whispered.

Suddenly, a shadow appeared at the entrance.

It slowly took shape, forming a tall, dark figure with glowing eyes.

"You have awakened the past," the figure said in a deep voice.

Ethan's fear returned, but he stood his ground.

"Who are you?" he asked.

"I am the guardian of this valley," the figure replied. "For years, I have protected this place, waiting for someone who understands."

Ethan swallowed. "I didn't come to harm anything. I just wanted to know the truth."

The guardian studied him for a moment.

"Many came before you," it said. "All were driven by greed. But you… you seek knowledge."

The crystal glowed brighter.

"You have a choice," the guardian continued. "Take the crystal and gain its power, or leave it here and protect the valley's secret."

Ethan looked at the crystal.

For a moment, he imagined all the things he could do with such power. He could become famous, rich, and admired. But then he remembered the vision—the destruction, the greed, the suffering.

He took a deep breath.

"I choose to leave it," he said firmly.

The guardian smiled faintly.

"You have chosen wisely."

The crystal's light softened, and the temple began to feel warmer.

"The valley will now trust you," the guardian said. "Its whispers will guide you, but its secrets must remain protected."

Ethan nodded.

"I understand."

As he turned to leave, the forest no longer felt frightening. The whispers had turned gentle, almost like a soft breeze guiding him back home.

When he finally stepped out of the valley, the sun was setting. The sky was golden, and the world felt normal again.

But Ethan knew something had changed.

He carried a secret—one that he would protect for the rest of his life.

From that day on, Ethan often visited the edge of Evergreen Valley. He never went too deep again, but sometimes, when the wind was just right, he could hear the whispers.

Not scary anymore.

But peaceful.

As if the valley itself was saying—

"Thank you."
