Chapter 2 - sweet beginnings

Before everything fell apart…

Before the sleepless nights and silent tears…

There was a time when Samantha believed she had found her forever.

It all started in a small, quiet village where life was simple and peaceful.

Samantha lived there with her grandmother. Their home was small, but it was filled with warmth and love. Every morning, she would wake up early, sweep the compound, and help prepare meals before the sun fully rose.

The village was far from the noise of the city. The air was fresh, the people were kind, and everything felt calm.

Samantha had a gentle heart. She smiled easily, laughed freely, and believed that love was something pure and beautiful.

Back then… she knew nothing about pain.

She often helped her grandmother with chores and sometimes sold small items in the market. Even though life wasn't luxurious, she was content.

Or at least… she thought she was.

Because everything changed the day he arrived. It was a normal afternoon.

The sun was high in the sky, and Samantha had just finished washing clothes by the river. She gathered them neatly into a basket and began walking back home.

That was when she saw him.

A stranger.

He stood near the entrance of the village, dressed in clothes that clearly didn't belong there. Everything about him was different—the way he carried himself, the calm confidence in his posture, and the quiet sharpness in his eyes.

People around whispered as they passed him.

"He must be from the city…"

Samantha slowed her steps, her curiosity rising.

She had never seen someone like him before.

As she walked past him, their eyes met for a brief second.

Her heart skipped.

She quickly looked away and continued walking, but for some reason, she could feel his gaze following her.

She didn't understand why that moment felt so strange.

So different.

Later that evening, Samantha couldn't stop thinking about him.

"Why am I even thinking about a stranger?" she muttered to herself, shaking her head.

But no matter how hard she tried, his image remained in her mind.

The next day, she saw him again.

This time, he approached her.

"Excuse me," he said, his voice calm and deep. "Can you help me?"

Samantha hesitated for a moment before nodding.

"Yes… what do you need?"

"I'm looking for a place to stay," he replied. "Somewhere quiet."

Samantha pointed toward a small house not too far away.

"You can ask there. They sometimes take visitors."

He looked at her for a moment, then gave a small smile.

"Thank you."

That simple smile…

She didn't know why, but it stayed with her long after he walked away.

From that moment on, their paths began to cross more often.

At the market.

By the river.

Even on the quiet paths leading out of the village.

Each time, they spoke a little more.

At first, it was just small conversations.

Then laughter.

Then something deeper.

Samantha didn't notice when it started happening…

But slowly—

She began to fall.

She didn't know his world was different from hers.

She didn't know his heart carried things she couldn't see.

She didn't know love… wouldn't be enough.

But one thing was certain—

That day she met him…

Was the beginning of everything.

And the beginning of her pain.Samantha sat on the edge of the bed, her hands trembling as she stared blankly at the floor.

Everything felt heavy.

Her chest… her thoughts… her heart.

It was as if the weight of all her mistakes had suddenly come crashing down on her at once.

A sharp wave of nausea hit her.

She quickly covered her mouth and rushed toward the bathroom.

Moments later, the sound of her vomiting echoed softly in the quiet space.

When she was done, she leaned weakly against the sink, breathing heavily.

Tears slowly filled her eyes as she looked at her reflection in the mirror.

She looked pale.

Tired.

Broken.

"What is happening to me…?" she whispered, her voice shaking.

But deep down… she already knew.

Her hands slowly moved to her stomach.

Her heart dropped.

"No…" she murmured, shaking her head slightly as if trying to deny the thought.

But the fear wouldn't go away.

Instead, it grew stronger.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as memories began to flood her mind.

Her mother's voice.

Clear.

Warning.

Serious.

"That man is not right for you."

"Don't let money blind you."

"You will regret this."

Samantha let out a broken sob.

"Why didn't I listen to you, Mom…?"

Her voice was filled with pain and regret.

Everything her mother said…

Was happening.

Exactly the way she warned her.

"I thought he loved me…" she whispered.

"I thought… I was special to him…"

A bitter laugh escaped her lips.

But there was nothing funny about it.

"Why was I so foolish…?" she asked herself.

"Why did I allow him to deceive me?"

Her mind kept spinning.

Question after question.

Pain after pain.

"Why did I leave everything behind for him…?"

"Why didn't I continue my education…?"

"Why did I choose him over my own future…?"

Each question hit her harder than the last.

Her chest tightened again.

"I gave him everything…" she cried.

"My time… my love… my trust…"

"And what did I get in return?"

Silence.

Pain.

Regret.

Her fingers tightened slightly against her dress.

"And now…" she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Her hand slowly returned to her stomach.

"What am I going to do now…?"

Tears fell freely, uncontrollably.

"If I'm really pregnant…"

Her voice broke completely.

"How did my life become like this…?"

She closed her eyes tightly, as if trying to escape everything.

But there was no escape.

Not from the truth.

Not from her choices.

Not from the consequences.

"I did this to myself…" she whispered.

"And now… I have to face it."Samantha didn't know when it started.

The way her heart beat a little faster whenever she saw him…

The way his voice lingered in her mind long after he left…

The way her world slowly began to revolve around him.

It felt strange.

New.

But also… beautiful.

Days turned into weeks.

And somehow, Leo became a part of her daily life.

He would find her at the market.

Walk with her by the river.

Talk to her like she was the only person that mattered.

And for the first time…

Samantha felt seen.

"You trust people too easily," he said one evening, his voice low as they stood under the fading sunset.

Samantha laughed softly. "Is that a bad thing?"

Leo looked at her for a moment—his expression unreadable.

"It can be," he replied.

She didn't understand what he meant.

Not then.

Not when her heart was already choosing him.

That night, as Samantha lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, a small smile rested on her lips.

She didn't know why.

But something told her…

Her life was about to change.

And it did.

But not in the way she expected.Because the very man who made her heart feel alive…

Would later be the same man who destroyed it.
