Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2:THE INVITATION

Nola didn't sleep that night.

Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the same thing.

Two lines.

Clear. Final. Life-changing.

By morning, her room felt smaller.

Like the walls were closing in on her.She sat at the edge of her bed, staring at her phone.

The last call still echoed in her mind.

"I'm engaged… to Roy."

Nola swallowed hard and looked away.

"Stop thinking about it," she whispered to herself.

But it wasn't that simple.

Roy was getting married.

And she was carrying his child. Her hand slowly moved to her stomach.

It still didn't feel real.

"I can't tell him," she said firmly.

The words came faster this time.

More certain.

Roy had made his choice.

He chose Zara. And Nola refused to be the woman who showed up with a pregnancy just to hold onto a man who had already let her go.

"I won't beg," she murmured.

Her phone buzzed suddenly, breaking the silence.

A message.From Zara.

"Hey love ❤️ Don't forget—you're invited to the wedding. It wouldn't feel complete without you there."

Nola stared at the screen.

Her expression didn't change. But her grip tightened.

Another message came in.

"Or are you too embarrassed to show your face?"

Nola let out a quiet breath.

There it was.The real Zara.

It had nothing to do with kindness.

Or closure.

Zara wanted to see her.

To measure her.

To remind her of where she stood.

"Typical," Nola muttered. She stood up and walked toward the window, staring out at the city.

People moved on the streets below like nothing had changed.

Like her world hadn't just turned upside down.

"I should just ignore it," she said.

That would be the easy choice.

Block Zara.Avoid the wedding.

Disappear quietly.

But something about that didn't sit right with her.

Why should she hide?

Why should she be the one to disappear… when she was the one who had been hurt?

Her reflection caught her eye in the glass.

She looked tired.

Hurt.

But not broken. They think I'll run," she said softly.

And maybe, before yesterday…

She would have.

But not anymore.

Her hand rested protectively on her stomach again.I'm not alone now."

That changed everything.

Nola turned back into the room, a quiet resolve settling into her.

"Fine," she said.If they want me at that wedding…"

Her voice didn't shake this time.

"I'll go."

Across the city, Zara sat in front of a mirror, smiling as a stylist adjusted her hair.

"Do you think ivory suits me better than white?" she asked casually.

"Both look amazing on you," the stylist replied quickly.

Zara smiled, pleased.Her phone buzzed.

She picked it up, expecting a response.

Nothing.

Nola hadn't replied.

Zara's smile faded slightly. She'll come," she said to herself, setting the phone down.

She always did.

Girls like Nola didn't know how to stay away.

Meanwhile, Roy stood alone in his office.

The silence felt heavier than usual.

He tried to focus on the documents in front of him, but the words blurred together.

Annoyed, he leaned back in his chair.Something wasn't right.

He didn't know what.

But he could feel it.

His mind drifted—uninvited.

To Nola. The way she used to look at him.

The way she argued with him without fear.

The way she walked away…

Without begging.

His jaw tightened.

"Forget it," he muttered.

Back in her apartment, Nola stood in front of her wardrobe.

Dresses hung neatly, untouched for weeks.

She hadn't had a reason to dress up.

Not since everything ended.

Her fingers brushed over the fabric slowlyShe pulled it out and held it up against herself, staring at her reflection.

This wasn't about Roy anymore.

And it definitely wasn't about Zara.

This was about her.She placed a hand on her stomach, her expression softening just a little.

"And no one will take this away from me."

Far across the same city…Three people prepared for the same event.

One with pride.

One with doubt.

And one…

With a secret powerful enough to change everything.

Nola broke down again crying

She can't believe Roy left her for her best friend Zara, and she can't still believe Zara could hurt her this way.

"I just wanna leave here..she said".
