Chapter 3 - Not just a crush anymore!

Jessica's POV

After coming back home with Ava(my cousin sister) everything felt normal on the outside.

We were just sitting in her room, talking randomly, laughing about small things like we always do. For a moment, I almost forgot about everything… about him.

Almost.

Then Adrian(cousin brother) came into the room.

I don't know why, but I have this habit of grabbing his phone every time he's around. So, like always, I took it from him and started scrolling through his gallery without even asking.

At first, it was just random pictures.

Nothing special.

Until suddenly—

My fingers stopped.

My heart did too.

It was him.

Johnathan.

For a few seconds, I just stared at the screen. That same face… those same eyes. It felt so strange seeing him like this, in someone else's phone, like he was a part of a world I didn't even know about.

But I quickly acted normal.

I pointed at the picture and said, "This guy… who is he?"

Adrian replied casually, "Oh, him? He's my best friend. We study together in school."

I nodded, pretending like it didn't matter.

But then he said something that I wasn't ready to hear.

"He had a girlfriend… but she left him and got married. He's really depressed now."

I don't know why, but hearing that… hurt.

It hit me in a place I didn't even know existed.

Depressed?

So that's why he looked like that… so quiet, so distant.

Suddenly, everything about him started making sense.

And instead of losing interest…

I felt something grow inside me.

Something deeper than just a simple crush.

I looked at his picture again, this time a little more carefully.

And without realizing, I asked softly, "When did they break up?"

Adrian said, "A few months ago."

After that, I didn't say anything.

But my mind… my heart…

They didn't stay quiet anymore.

Jessica's POV

After that, everything stayed in my head the whole day.

No matter what I did, I kept thinking about him. His face, his eyes… and what Adrian said. It didn't leave me alone for a second.

At one point, I even tried searching for his profile.

But I couldn't find it.

I typed his name again and again… different spellings, different ways—but nothing showed up. It was frustrating.

Why can't I find him?

The next evening, suddenly, Keon added me to the group chat.

As soon as I joined, I saw everyone texting—funny messages, random jokes, nonstop talking. It felt lively.

But him?

Johnathan barely said anything.

He was there… but quiet.

Just like before.

Then finally, I found his ID.

And instantly, I realized my mistake.

Oh… I was spelling his name wrong.

I thought it was Zohnathan… but it was actually Johnathan.

I felt a little stupid—but also relieved.

Now that I found him, I didn't know what to do.

To get his attention, I started texting more in the group. Random replies, small jokes… trying to be noticed.

But—

No reply from him.

Not even once.

Then suddenly, the topic changed.

Someone started talking about PUBG.

I quickly replied, "I play PUBG."

But then his cousin, Jacob, jumped in.

He said they play Free Fire and that it's better.

And just like that, we started arguing a little—back and forth, PUBG vs Free Fire.

It wasn't serious… but I kept replying.

Then—

Johnathan texted.

"I play PUBG sometimes too. Both are good in their own way."

I paused after reading that.

Even a simple message from him felt different.

After that, I kept thinking for a long time.

Should I send him a friend request… or not?

My mind said no.

But my heart—

Didn't listen.

So I took the risk.

And sent it.

A few seconds later…

He accepted.

Immediately.

I couldn't believe it.

I was so happy, it didn't even make sense. I kept staring at the screen like it might disappear if I looked away.

And then—

He reacted to my story.

A love react.

I checked it once.

Then again.

And again.

And again.

Like it was something unreal.

And somehow… that small notification made my whole day feel brighter.

After that… I don't know where I got the courage from.

But I texted him.

Just a simple—

"Hi."

For a few seconds, I just stared at the screen, my heart beating faster than it should.

Then—

He replied.

"Hello."

I froze for a moment.

Oh God… what do I say now?

My mind went completely blank. Still, I forced myself to type something.

"How are you?"

He replied, "Fine. What about you?"

I quickly typed back, "I'm fine."

There was a small pause.

Then I asked,

"Did you recognize me?"

He replied,

"Yes. You came to coaching with a cat."

I couldn't help but smile a little.

"Yeah… my friend wanted it, that's why," I replied.

After that, I didn't know what to say again.

Before I could think of anything, he asked,

"Do you play PUBG regularly?"

I shook my head slightly, even though he couldn't see me.

"No… sometimes," I typed.

Then he said,

"Knock me when you play."

A small, unexpected happiness filled my chest.

"Okay," I replied.

And just like that…

The conversation ended.

It wasn't long.

It wasn't anything special.

But for me—

It felt like the beginning of something!!!!!
