She sat crouched, staring with empty eyes at Seraphina’s yellow-colored bones. But Seraphina no longer spoke to her. All that lay before her was just withered, insignificant bones.
"…Speak. Say something, anything. Back then, you were so quick to talk without even being asked..."
But there was no answer in return.
Her reddened eyes glared at the bones before her, then touched her flat belly.
Under different circumstances, she might’ve been overjoyed. No, she definitely would have been. And then, she would’ve dreamed - dreams of a life with Rayton and a child resembling them both.
Yet their child’s existence had become a shackle she hadn't intended. The image of their tear-streaked, tender face, pleading not to be killed haunted her like a curse.
"If I ever had children someday…" she murmured. "I planned to love them with all my heart."
