Sez found herself unable to fall asleep even after Philip had left.
The moon had risen outside the window, casting a red glow that reminded her of the color of Rayton's eyes. She sat there, staring up at the moon, hoping it might bring her a little bit of peace, but it was all in vain.
What she truly wanted was to see Rayton.
"But His Imperial Majesty will inflict suffering upon himself until death if you leave."
She couldn’t get Philip’s firm words out of her mind. Come to think of it, she realized that Rayton had always been like that - alone on the edge. He had never learned how to express his sorrow, and no one had allowed him to be sad.
It was entirely possible that he might end up tormenting himself to the point of death when the pain became too unbearable, just as Philip had suggested.
“If you were to get married... what kind of woman would you want to marry?”
“Someone who’s... like oxygen to me.”
