Chapter 72 - The Archive

I spent about an hour rummaging through the archive, but didn't come away with much.

"So, did you find anything?"

"Nothing, except that the sword forged by the blacksmith in this book is the same as the one I'm keeping."

The blacksmith who seemed to be the protagonist of this coverless book was said to have created a sword that radiated brilliant light in the end.

The name of that final work was Excalibur.

Oddly enough, the section about Excalibur was not written in nearly as much detail as everything else.

There was only a line saying it was a sword that promised victory to its allies, and nothing more.

"Haaah... so all that's left is that damned family's archive, huh..."

I really don't want to go...

"...But are they really coming?"

It felt like an hour had already passed, but for some reason, no one was showing up.

"I'm sure of it. I overheard Lord Ares talking with His Majesty."

"Then why aren't they swarming in?"

"Who knows..."

So you don't know either...

"Does Ares have another plan?"

"He said he'd hold a banquet in two days and tie you to the princess."

"...Should I run? Ah, I'll borrow the book for a bit."

"Sure."

Since there was nothing more to gain from searching Lacia's archive, I took the untitled book and left the archive.

"...You're back?"

"So that's why they didn't come."

When I stepped outside the archive, I saw Aiz standing there after subduing a maid.

"There are a lot of them..."

The maids were all stunning enough to stand out anywhere.

"Are you hurt anywhere?"

"Shouldn't I be the one asking that?"

She'd gone one-on-one against a hundred people and didn't have a single scratch.

...Ah, right. Aiz was Level 6 now.

Before long, the sun set and the moon rose.

Fortunately or unfortunately, going to the Crozzo mansion was decided for the next day.

"...I didn't think I'd end up going back there."

Now that it was really happening, I felt strangely unsettled.

"Uuuugh..."

Sleep was being a complete pain too.

"Excuse me, I'll be coming in for a moment."

"Huh?"

While I was rolling around in the single room I'd been assigned, a sweet voice came from beyond the knock at the door.

Then the door opened, and—

"It's an honor to meet you, Bellf Crozzo-sama."

"...Did Ares send you?"

Women wearing outfits that showed more skin than they covered had come to visit.

"Why are you here in the middle of the night?"

"We came to attend to Bellf Crozzo-sama through the night—"

"Get out."

I didn't need to hear any more, so I ordered them out, but—

"We can't do that. We came to satisfy you, Bellf-sama."

They made it clear they had no intention of leaving.

"Is that so?"

"Yes, so—"

And so,

"Then I'll leave."

"Huh?"

I smashed the window and ran away.
