Chapter 41 - Deep Expedition

[Aaaah!!! Aria!!! Urrs!!!]

With an unpleasant shriek, the female monster targeted Aiz and me.

The female monster extended tentacles similar to the man-eating flower we had seen at Monsterphilia.

They looked alike, but its speed was several times greater.

"Trace on, [Rho Aias]!"

I blocked the incoming tentacles with [Rho Aias].

[Aria!!! Urrs!!! Let us become one!!!]

"Shut up."

That unpleasant, nauseating voice slammed into my ears.

For some reason, I felt an inexplicable revulsion toward that monster.

And so did—

"Open your eyes, Tempest."

Aiz.

Wrapped in wind from head to toe, Aiz drew the Hawk Sword, and the executives quickly grasped the situation and launched their attacks.

[Fire, come. Cry, cry, cry, rage fiercely,]

"A chant!?"

As the executives attacked, that monster began chanting in human language.

And at a frightening speed.

[Rage and howl. Whirlwind of fire, wall of crimson flames, roar of blazing fury, by the power of the gale, this world, borrowed only for a time,]

"What kind of monster chants!?"

"Quit yapping and block it already, you idiot wolf!"

As Tiona and Tione charged the monster with their three Urgas, the monsters we had seen at Monsterphilia began swarming toward them.

Because of that, the Hiryute sisters, who had been about to deal with the female monster, immediately turned to the tentacles instead.

"Bete!"

"Hah! Leave this to me, old man!"

"I'm not about to fall behind some youngster!"

Bete and Gareth had to deal with the monsters rushing in at the sound of the commotion.

The remaining members were Finn, Riveria, Aiz, and me.

The four of us had to deal with that disgusting thing.

[Burn the sky, burn the sea, burn the springs, burn the mountains, reduce all life to scorched earth and fire the signal flare of rage and lament,]

"Tch!"

"Soon it shall spew fire. The tide of war, inescapable ruin. The horn of battle rings high, and the strife of tyranny surrounds us on all sides."

Finn charged in with his spear, but despite its appearance, the female monster was incredibly quick.

Riveria began her chant, and the female monster only accelerated its own chant in response.

[Our beloved hero, the price of life, by the name of the agent I command it. My chosen name is Salamander. Incarnation of flame, king of flames,]

"Declare it, crimson fire, merciless conflagration. You are the incarnation of blazing fury. Burn everything away and bring an end to this great war,"

Just before Riveria's chant finished,

[Fire Storm.]

The female monster's chant ended, and a massive storm of flames came crashing down.

But—

"[Ice Swan]!"

The Crozzo magic sword of ice attribute generated steam and dampened the storm of flames.

"When did you bring that out?"

"I projected it the moment I saw that thing."

"Burn, sword of Surtr. My name is Alv."

Riveria's chant ended.

"[Lea Lavein]!"

The greatest annihilation spell of Orario's strongest mage activated.

A colossal pillar of fire surged up beneath the female monster's feet,

[Aaaaaaaa!!!]

and it began screaming.

As the outstretched tentacles caught fire, it kept letting out pained shrieks, but—

[Aaaah!!! Aria!!! Urrs!!!]

the revulsion did not disappear.

"It can withstand Riveria's magic too?"

Finn muttered in disbelief.

Aiz and Finn, who had stepped back for the moment, were about to charge in with their weapons, but—

"Wait."

"Bellf?"

I stopped Finn.

"If the firepower is enough, we can definitely take that thing down, right?"

"Huh? Ah, yeah. I think so."

The pillar of fire began to die down.

It would probably still be there, glaring with those disgusting eyes and rampaging as if nothing had happened.

"My body is made of swords."

So I had to finish the chant while it was still burning.
