Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Run With Me

The ballroom exploded into whispers.

Not loud.

Worse.

Controlled chaos.

The kind rich people create when something scandalous happens in front of them.

Because now—

Everyone saw it.

Her hand in mine.

Public.

Intentional.

And impossible to deny.

I felt security moving before I even saw them.

Fast footsteps.

Voices in earpieces.

Tension flooding the room instantly.

Her father's expression turned lethal.

Not angry anymore.

Past anger.

This was damage control now.

"Separate them," he ordered coldly.

The command sliced through the ballroom immediately.

Several nearby guests stepped backward instinctively.

Nobody wanted to be near the fallout.

But she didn't let go of my hand.

Not even after hearing her father.

If anything—

Her grip tightened.

And somehow—

That hit harder than everything else tonight.

"Come with me," I said quietly.

Her eyes met mine instantly.

No hesitation.

"…Okay."

That single word changed everything.

Because now—

She wasn't just resisting her family.

She was choosing to run.

With me.

Security closed in immediately.

Three men approaching from the left corridor.

Two more near the ballroom entrance.

Fast.

Professional.

But not fast enough.

I pulled her gently toward the opposite side of the ballroom.

People moved aside instantly.

Expensive dresses.

Champagne glasses.

Whispers spreading like wildfire behind us.

The entire gala watching in real time.

"Stop them!"

Her father's voice echoed sharply across the room.

That finally shattered the remaining calm.

Gasps spread.

Music stopped abruptly.

And suddenly—

The glamorous ballroom transformed into chaos.

We ran.

Not elegantly.

Not carefully.

Actually ran.

Past stunned guests.

Past waiters frozen in place.

Past security trying to reposition quickly.

Her heels hit the marble floor hard beside me as we pushed through the corridor exit.

"Left," I said immediately.

She followed without questioning.

Trust again.

Always trust.

The hallway beyond the ballroom was quieter.

Dimmer lights.

Private conference corridors.

But footsteps thundered behind us now.

Closer.

Very close.

"They're gaining," she whispered breathlessly.

"I noticed."

We turned sharply around another corner.

Dead end.

Damn.

A locked service door stood near the far wall.

No time.

I grabbed the handle anyway.

Locked.

Of course.

Voices approaching fast now.

"He went this way!"

Her breathing tightened beside me.

And for the first time tonight—

I saw actual fear in her eyes.

Not fear of being caught.

Fear for me.

"Hey."

I stepped closer quickly.

Her eyes locked onto mine immediately.

"We're getting out."

I didn't know if that was true.

But I needed her to believe it.

The footsteps got louder.

Seconds away.

Then suddenly—

A loud metallic crash echoed nearby.

Security voices erupted instantly from another corridor.

"What was that?!"

Distraction.

Someone created a distraction.

But why?

No time to think about it.

Because at that exact moment—

The locked service door beside us clicked open.

Both of us froze.

The door opened slightly.

Darkness inside.

And a low voice.

"Move. Now."

I couldn't see the person clearly.

Just a figure hidden in shadow.

Dangerous.

Unknown.

But security was seconds away.

No choice.

I grabbed her hand tighter.

And we went inside.

The door slammed shut behind us immediately.

Dark stairwell.

Concrete walls.

Emergency lights barely illuminating anything.

The mysterious figure moved downward quickly.

"Follow me if you want to leave before security locks the building."

Male voice.

Young.

Confident.

I exchanged one quick glance with her.

Then followed.

Because whoever this was—

He just saved us.

We rushed down the narrow stairwell fast.

Footsteps echoing sharply through the concrete space.

Meanwhile above us—

Voices exploded through hotel radios.

"They disappeared!"

"Seal the exits!"

"Find them now!"

Her family had completely lost control of the situation.

And somehow—

That made this even more dangerous.

The stranger finally stopped near the underground parking level.

Still partially hidden beneath the dim emergency lighting.

"Well," he said casually,

"you two definitely know how to ruin a gala."

Something about his tone felt strange.

Too relaxed.

Too amused.

Like he enjoyed the chaos.

"Who are you?" I asked immediately.

The stranger smiled slightly.

Then finally stepped fully into the light.

Expensive suit.

Sharp eyes.

Confident posture.

Definitely rich.

Definitely connected.

And definitely not random.

He looked directly at her first.

Then at me.

And smiled again.

"…Someone very interested in what happens next."

Before either of us could respond—

Sirens echoed faintly somewhere above.

Security still searching.

Still hunting.

And deep down—

I realized something terrifying.

Tonight didn't just create a scandal.

It started something much bigger.
