The room had gone completely dark except for the pale light coming from the screen.
The movie had grown quieter.
Loretta sat rigidly in her seat, her eyes fixed on the screen as a woman in the movie slowly walked through an abandoned house.
A floorboard creaked.
The woman stopped.
Nothing.
She took another step.
Another creak sounded behind her.
Loretta's fingers tightened around the edge of her seat. She began to regret her decision to choose such a movie. She had heard the movie had received good box office reviews, but she never expected it to be so scary.
Julian leaned forward slightly, clearly enjoying the suspense. "Don't move," he whispered. He had not expected the movie to be as realistic as the reviews had said.
Loretta glanced at him nervously.
"Why?"
"Because whatever is behind her is probably behind you too."
Loretta's eyes widened.
"Julian."
He chuckled softly.
Kevin, sitting between them, gave Julian a warning look.
