The conversation in the main ballroom gradually shifted as members of the organizing committee began moving through the room, quietly directing guests toward the adjoining auction hall.
A moment later, a soft announcement came through the speakers.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we kindly invite you to proceed to the auction hall. The charity auction will begin shortly."
The atmosphere immediately changed.
Guests began setting down their glasses and walking toward the hall. Conversations continued as people moved toward the wide double doors at the far end of the ballroom.
Julian stood and looked toward Loretta.
"Well, the moment we have all been waiting for. It's time to see how much money these people are willing to spend tonight."
Loretta smiled. "You make it sound like entertainment."
"It is entertainment," Julian replied without hesitation. "The expensive kind."
Michelle laughed softly as she stood.
Loretta shook her head, amused. "Don't you plan to buy anything?"
