Chapter 22 - CHAPTER TWENTY: The Realization

They spent the next day going through the files.

Names. Dates. Locations.

The hunters had been active for over a decade. They had captured dozens of people with abilities—some as young as six. They had run experiments. Conducted tests. Pushed their subjects to the breaking point and beyond.

Aarav felt sick.

"We have to stop them," he said.

"How?"

"We go public. Leak the files to the media. Expose everything."

"They'll deny it."

"Then we prove it."

"How?"

He looked at her.

"Together."

That night, they sat on the roof of the abandoned construction site, watching the stars.

The city was quiet. The hunters were quiet. For one moment, the world felt almost normal.

"Aarav."

"Yeah?"

"I need to tell you something."

He turned to look at her.

Her face was serious. Nervous.

"When I first came to Delhi... I wasn't just looking for help. I was looking for you specifically."

"I know. You said that."

"No." She shook her head. "I mean... I was looking for you. Not just any mind reader. You."

"Why?"

She took a breath.

"Because I saw you."

"When?"

"Years ago. Before I started running. Before everything. I saw you in a dream."

Aarav's heart stopped.

"A dream?"

"A vision. I don't know what to call it. But I saw your face. Your eyes. I heard your voice. And I knew... I knew you were important."

"Important how?"

"I didn't know then. But I know now."

She reached for his hand.

"You're the reason I kept running. The reason I didn't give up. Because somewhere out there, you existed. And I needed to find you."

Aarav's throat was tight.

"You saw me in a dream?"

"Yes."

"And you came looking for me?"

"Yes."

"For three years?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

She smiled.

The smile wasn't knowing. It wasn't sad.

It was hopeful.

"Because you're the girl I can't read," she said. "And I'm the boy who's been looking for you my whole life."

He kissed her.

Not desperate this time.

Not hungry.

Soft.

A promise.

A beginning.
