Chapter 25.
I pushed with everything I had, feeling my muscles bulge and strain. I heard her let out a small grunt of surprise as she was tossed backward.
I scrambled to my fin, gasping for breath, ready to keep swimming.
But then I froze. My face turned pale, and the blood in my veins felt like it had turned to lead.
As she floated there, righting herself in the water, I saw something I wished I hadn't.
A long, red claw wound was stretched right across her beautiful face.
In my blind panic, in my desperate attempt to get her off me, I had actually struck my mistress and clawed at her face.
She floated there in total silence. The water stayed still around her. It was like the whole ocean was holding its breath.
She looked stunned, as if she herself couldn't believe that I, her pet, her "dogfish," a mere human, would dare to raise a hand against her.
