Chapter 9 - THE MAN WHO DOESN’T EXIST

The next morning felt wrong.

Not loud.

Not chaotic.

Too quiet.

Like something had already happened—

and no one knew yet.

Aeris noticed it immediately.

The way people looked at her.

Again.

But this time—

it wasn't curiosity.

It was… distance.

"…What now?" she muttered under her breath.

"They're avoiding you."

She didn't need to turn.

"…And you're not?"

A pause.

Then—

"No."

Kael.

Standing beside her.

Uninvited.

Unmoved.

Aeris exhaled quietly.

"…You're becoming predictable."

"And you're becoming reckless."

That—

caught her attention.

She turned.

"…Explain."

Kael's gaze held hers.

Steady.

"You didn't hide it."

"…Hide what?"

A beat.

"Your reaction."

Silence.

For a second—

too long—

Aeris said nothing.

Because he was right.

And she hated that.

"…It doesn't matter."

"It does."

His voice dropped.

"Whoever sent that message…"

A step closer.

"They're watching you now."

The words landed.

Heavy.

Aeris's fingers tightened slightly.

"…They always were."

And for the first time—

Kael didn't respond immediately.

Because that—

wasn't something new.

That was something ongoing.

🩸 THE FIRST CLUE

Later that day—

Kael didn't go to class.

Because Kael didn't need to.

Instead—

he was somewhere no one followed him.

A quiet room.

Dark screens.

Silent systems.

And one person.

Noah Kiren.

"…Play it again."

The video flickered on screen.

The same one.

Aeris's house.

Six years ago.

Noah leaned back slightly.

"…There's no data."

Kael's eyes didn't move.

"…That's not possible."

"It is."

Noah's voice stayed calm.

"No metadata. No source. No trace."

A pause.

Then—

"It's like it was never recorded."

Silence.

Heavy.

Kael's gaze darkened.

"Zoom the corner."

The screen shifted.

Grainy.

Distorted.

And then—

Something appeared.

Not clear.

Not fully visible.

But there.

A figure.

Standing—

too still.

Watching.

No face.

No movement.

Just—

presence.

"…What is that?" Noah murmured.

Kael didn't answer.

Because for the first time—

he wasn't sure.

🌑 BACK TO AERIS

Aeris stood alone in the corridor again.

But this time—

she wasn't calm.

She was thinking.

Replaying.

Analyzing.

The angle of the camera.

The timing.

The voice.

"…You made a mistake."

She said it quietly.

Not to anyone.

To him.

Whoever he was.

And somewhere—

far beyond her reach—

something responded.

Another message appeared.

"Did I?"

Her eyes darkened.

Then—

another line.

"Then find me."

Silence.

Cold.

Inviting.

🌑 ENDING SCENE

Night fell again.

But this time—

it didn't feel the same.

Because now—

this wasn't just survival.

This was a hunt.

And both sides—

had started moving.

Behind her—

a familiar presence.

Closer than before.

"Threx no valen…"

Literal meaning:

"The hunt has begun."

Real meaning:

"There's no turning back now."

Aeris didn't turn.

"…Good."

A pause.

Then—

quietly—

"I was getting tired of waiting."

And for the first time—

Kael smiled.

Not dark.

Not dangerous.

Something else.

Interested.
