I had been waiting for a call I knew would never come.
Even in my own twisted way, I had actually believed he would survive. That Brian would somehow crawl out of the wreckage like he always did.
Instead, I stood paralyzed, staring blankly at the television screen as the news anchor reported on the horrific double murder-suicide down at the police precinct.
A sickening wave of nausea hit me. I felt like total shit. They were kids involved, fathers for God's sake. They had Children.
I rushed into the restroom, gripping the edges of the sink as I violently splashed cold water over my face, trying to drown out the sudden roar in my ears.
I leaned over the basin, staring at my reflection in the mirror for a good five minutes. The water dripped from my chin, tracking cold lines down my neck.
