ISLA~
Elara straddled me. Something I wasn't expecting.
Damn.
I stared up at her, waiting to see what she'd do next, but we were interrupted by my phone ringing.
Fuck.
"You should get that," she said, letting out a soft sigh.
"Hmm."
I got out of bed and picked up my phone from where it lay on the floor. Ernest, the screen read. I breathed out. I was hoping it would be Brian—I mean, it had been almost twelve hours without a single word from him.
"Oh, it's Ernest," I said, meeting her eyes. I picked up. He better not be calling based on our conversation from earlier this morning. "Is there a problem?"
"Ray has been calling her. She's not picking," he said.
"And?"
"Just tell her that, and tell her we're close."
"Close? Why is he coming here?" I looked at the digital clock on the wall, then at Elara, who seemed lost in thought.
"We need to talk, Isla. She'll tell you the details."
He cut the call, and I lowered the phone slowly.
