Chapter 86 - Chapter 86: Directions Not Shared

The sea felt steady.

Not calm like before—

but guided.

The ship moved cleaner now.

No drifting.

No wasted turns.

Carina leaned over the railing.

"…Okay, I admit it."

A pause.

"…having a navigator is amazing."

Nami didn't look at her.

"…Obviously."

Carina pointed.

"…I still don't like your attitude."

Nami smirked slightly.

"…Then don't get lost."

Kuina stood near the center of the deck.

Watching.

Not the sea—

Nami.

Tashigi stood beside her.

Same posture.

Same awareness.

"…She's skilled," Tashigi said quietly.

Kuina nodded.

"…Too precise for someone alone."

Tashigi adjusted her glasses.

"…Agreed."

At the bow—

Kevin remained still.

But his eyes weren't on the horizon.

They shifted.

Patterns.

Movements.

Small things.

Nami's hands on the wheel.

The way she adjusted direction—

before it was needed.

Not reaction.

Expectation.

A pause.

"…You've done this before," Kevin said.

Nami didn't turn.

"…That's why I'm here."

Carina laughed.

"…Confidence. I like it."

Kevin didn't respond.

He watched longer.

The fragments in his mind—

still there.

A map.

Broken.

But one detail remained clear.

A coastline.

Similar.

Not exact—

But close.

"…This route," Kevin said quietly.

"…Where does it lead?"

Nami answered instantly.

"…Safer waters."

Too fast.

Kuina's eyes shifted.

Tashigi noticed.

Carina didn't.

"…Good. I like safe."

Kevin didn't press.

"…Understood," he said.

But he didn't look away.

Time passed.

The sun moved higher.

The wind adjusted.

Nami corrected the course again—

slightly.

Kevin stepped closer.

Not confrontational.

Just near.

"…You changed direction," he said.

Nami shrugged.

"…Wind."

A pause.

Kevin looked at the sail.

Then the sea.

Then back at her.

"…No," he said.

Silence.

Carina blinked.

"…Wait—are we doing this now?"

Kuina didn't move.

Tashigi stayed quiet.

Nami finally turned.

Her expression—

calm.

But sharp.

"…You don't trust me?" she asked.

Kevin answered simply:

"…I don't know you."

A pause.

Carina raised both hands.

"…Okay, let's not turn this into a problem—"

Nami looked at Kevin.

"…I'm getting us somewhere useful," she said.

Not a lie.

But not the truth.

Kevin held her gaze for a moment longer.

Then—

"…Fine."

He stepped back.

Not convinced.

But not stopping her.

The tension eased.

Slightly.

Carina exhaled loudly.

"…Great. We're arguing now. This is new."

Kuina spoke quietly:

"…We're not arguing."

Tashigi added:

"…We're observing."

Carina stared at both of them.

"…That's worse."

Nami turned back to the wheel.

Her grip tightened—

just slightly.

Unnoticed by most.

Not by Kevin.

The ship continued forward.

Faster now.

More direct.

And ahead—

far beyond the horizon—

something waited.

Not yet seen.

But already chosen.

Kevin returned to the bow.

The fragments in his mind shifted again.

That coastline.

Closer.

Matching.

He didn't speak.

But now—

he knew.

Not everything.

Just enough.

Behind him—

the crew moved as usual.

Carina talking.

Kuina and Tashigi watching.

Nami steering.

And beneath it all—

one direction was shared.

The other—

was not.

But they were already heading toward it.

Whether they realized it—

or not.
