Chapter 48 - CHAPTER 48:A Decision to Stay

The dojo remained unchanged as the days passed.

But something inside it had shifted.

Kevin stood at the edge of the training yard, watching the morning drills begin.

Carina was already warming up.

Kuina stood nearby, as always—silent, focused.

Koshiro's gaze moved across the yard once… then settled on Kevin.

"…You are still here."

Kevin replied without turning.

"…Yes."

A pause.

The wind moved through the wooden structure.

Then Kevin spoke again.

"…I will stay."

Carina paused mid-stretch.

"…Huh?"

Kuina's eyes shifted slightly—but she did not interrupt.

Koshiro remained calm.

"…For how long."

Kevin answered.

"…Years."

Carina blinked.

"…YEARS?!"

Kevin finally turned slightly toward her.

"…For your training."

Carina pointed at herself.

"…Me?!"

Kevin nodded once.

"…You need stability."

Carina exhaled loudly.

"…That sounds like I'm a long-term project again…"

Kuina finally spoke.

"…That is good."

Carina glanced at her.

"…Why do you sound happy about it?"

Kuina answered simply.

"…Because you improve."

Koshiro studied Kevin carefully.

"…And your own path?"

Kevin replied without hesitation.

"…I will train."

Koshiro narrowed his eyes slightly.

"…Under me."

Kevin nodded.

"…Yes."

A brief silence followed.

Then Koshiro turned.

"…Accepted."

Carina blinked again.

"…That was easy."

Koshiro continued calmly.

"…I do not reject swordsmen who choose discipline."

Kuina stepped forward slightly.

Her eyes were steady.

Not emotional.

But focused.

"…You said you would leave again."

Kevin looked at her.

"…Yes."

"…But you are staying."

Kevin replied.

"…For now."

Kuina nodded once.

"…Then I will not fall behind."

Carina sighed.

"…Okay, this is turning into a competition I didn't sign up for…"

Kevin looked between them.

Carina.

Kuina.

Then Koshiro.

"…This place is useful."

Koshiro replied calmly.

"…It is a foundation. Nothing more."

Kevin nodded.

"…That is enough."

From that day onward—

Time at the dojo changed.

Not in structure.

But in intention.

Carina trained every day under Kuina's pressure.

Learning to stabilize her movements.

Reducing wasted motion.

Kuina trained harder than before.

Not against others—

But against her own limits.

Kevin trained under Koshiro.

Swords were not the only focus.

Footwork.

Breathing.

Control.

Presence.

And Koshiro noticed something.

Kevin was not learning like a normal student.

He was refining something already built.

Something heavier.

Stranger.

"…Your foundation is not standard sword style."

Koshiro said one evening.

Kevin replied calmly.

"…It was formed through experience."

Koshiro narrowed his eyes slightly.

"…And something else."

Kevin did not deny it.

Kuina, meanwhile, began to close distance.

Not enough to surpass Kevin—

But enough that her strikes became more dangerous.

More refined.

Carina noticed it first.

"…She's starting to feel scary…"

Kuina replied without looking at her.

"…Good."

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks began stretching toward something longer.

And Kevin did not leave.

Not yet.

Because this time—

He was not passing through.

He was building something.

Training someone.

And closing the gap he once saw in the future.

And the sea outside the dojo—

Waited quietly.
