Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Distant Tides, Unseen Bonds

The sea was calm that evening.

A soft breeze drifted through Shimotsuki Village, carrying with it the scent of salt and something… distant.

Ren stood at the edge of the shore, staring at the horizon.

"…it's bigger than I remember," he murmured.

Of course it was.

This wasn't a screen.

This wasn't a story he could scroll through.

This was real.

Endless.

Unpredictable.

Dangerous.

The Grand Line… the New World…

Even the East Blue—considered the weakest sea—was far from safe.

He clenched his fist slightly.

And somewhere out there…

People were already fighting.

Surviving.

Struggling.

Living lives he had only ever read about.

A faint smile crossed his lips.

"…I wonder what you're doing right now…"

A Name Carried by the Wind

"Ren!"

A voice called out behind him.

He turned.

Kuina was walking toward him, arms crossed.

"…you skipped evening practice."

Ren scratched his cheek.

"…needed some air."

Kuina stopped beside him, glancing out at the sea.

"…it's just water."

Ren chuckled.

"…that 'just water' leads everywhere."

She didn't respond.

But her gaze lingered on the horizon a little longer than usual.

"…have you ever thought about leaving?" Ren asked.

Kuina frowned slightly.

"…leaving?"

"The village."

"…no."

The answer came quickly.

Too quickly.

Ren tilted his head.

"…never?"

Kuina's grip tightened slightly.

"…this is where I train."

"…and after that?"

Silence.

The waves filled the gap.

"…I'll become the strongest here."

Ren smiled faintly.

"…only here?"

Kuina didn't answer.

A Storm Far Away

The wind picked up slightly.

For a brief moment—

Ren felt something strange.

Not the cold darkness within him.

Something else.

Distant.

Faint.

Like a ripple across the sea.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"…that's weird…"

Kuina glanced at him.

"…what?"

"…nothing."

But his gaze remained fixed on the horizon.

That feeling…

It wasn't power.

It wasn't danger.

It was—

Movement.

Change.

Like something far away had just… shifted.

He shook his head.

Probably nothing.

And yet—

For a brief moment—

An image flashed in his mind.

A girl.

Orange hair.

Standing alone.

Eyes filled with both fear… and determination.

Then—

It vanished.

Ren blinked.

"…what was that…?"

"Oi."

Kuina nudged him slightly.

"…you're spacing out again."

"…yeah… sorry."

A Promise Beneath the Sky

They stood there in silence for a while.

The sky slowly turning shades of orange and purple.

"…Ren," Kuina said suddenly.

"…hm?"

"…if you left this village…"

She hesitated.

"…what would you do?"

Ren didn't answer immediately.

His eyes remained on the horizon.

"…a lot of things."

"Like what?"

He smiled slightly.

"…see the world."

"…"

"Meet people."

"…"

"Change things."

Kuina frowned.

"…that's vague."

Ren chuckled.

"…it's supposed to be."

He glanced at her.

"…what about you?"

She looked away.

"…I already told you."

"…strongest swordsman."

"Hm."

Ren nodded slowly.

"…then you'll have to leave eventually."

Kuina's eyes widened slightly.

"…why?"

"Because the strongest isn't in this village."

He pointed toward the sea.

"…they're out there."

Silence.

Kuina followed his gaze.

For the first time—

Her expression wasn't just determined.

It was… uncertain.

"…then I'll go someday," she said quietly.

Ren smiled.

"…yeah."

Another Distant Echo

Far away.

Beyond the East Blue.

Beyond calm seas.

Beyond safety.

A storm raged.

Waves crashed violently against a massive ship.

Thunder roared across the sky.

And on the deck—

A young girl stood, gripping a heavy club.

Her white hair whipped wildly in the wind.

"…again," she muttered.

She swung.

Hard.

The air itself seemed to tremble slightly.

Her breathing was steady.

Her eyes—

Fierce.

Unyielding.

"…I'll get stronger…"

The storm roared louder.

But she didn't stop.

"…no matter what."

Far from her—

Far beyond her reach—

Something shifted.

Just slightly.

Like a thread being pulled.

Unseen.

Unnoticed.

Back in the East Blue

Ren suddenly shivered.

"…cold…"

Kuina frowned.

"…you're always like this lately."

"…yeah…"

He rubbed his arm slightly.

"…just a weird feeling."

Kuina studied him.

"…that power again?"

"…maybe."

He didn't fully understand it himself.

But lately—

It felt like his senses were… expanding.

Not physically.

But something deeper.

Like he was brushing against things he shouldn't be able to perceive yet.

"…don't overdo it," Kuina said.

Ren smiled.

"…you sound like you care."

"…I don't."

"…sure."

The Beginning of Something Unseen

The sun finally dipped below the horizon.

Stars began to fill the sky.

Ren lay back on the sand, hands behind his head.

Kuina remained standing.

"…you're really strange," she said.

Ren laughed softly.

"…I get that a lot."

"…but…"

She hesitated.

"…you're not boring."

Ren blinked.

"…that's… a compliment?"

"…don't make it weird."

He grinned.

"…too late."

Kuina turned away slightly.

But—

There was a faint warmth in her expression.

Threads of Fate

That night—

Ren sat alone again.

Eyes closed.

Reaching inward.

The darkness responded.

Cold.

Heavy.

Familiar.

But now—

There was something else.

Faint.

Distant.

Like thin threads stretching outward.

He couldn't see them clearly.

Couldn't follow them.

But he could feel them.

Connections.

To somewhere.

To someone.

"…what is this…?"

The feeling disappeared as quickly as it came.

Ren opened his eyes slowly.

"…this fruit…"

It wasn't just about death.

It wasn't just about power.

It was something deeper.

Something… tied to fate itself.

His expression grew serious.

"…I need to understand it."

Because whatever this was—

It would shape his future.

A Quiet Night, A Moving World

In a small village in the East Blue—

Three children trained.

Laughed.

Argued.

Unaware of the world waiting for them.

Far away—

Storms raged.

Lives changed.

Paths formed.

And somewhere in between—

Invisible threads slowly began to connect.

Not yet visible.

Not yet understood.

But inevitable.
