Shen Miao sat in her carriage chewing on the snacks that had been prepared for her before she left. The snacks were delicious but right now she didn't have the want to appreciate their exquisiteness not she didn't want to, but every time she glanced at the person seated not too far from herself, she felt mildly irritated.
Shen Yiyi seated right across from her wasn't doing any better either her thoughts spiraling as she took a large bite from the snacks she was eating imagining; she was actually biting her brothers head off his body.
"Useless.... utterly useless" she thought with every bite she took.
Twenty minutes ago, after Shen Maio delivered the snacks, she had prepared for her brother to Xi Shu. She was in a jolly mood though her daily interaction with her brother was interrupted today. Bai Yue could still tell as she watched her young miss basically skip with every step she took.
Arriving at the entrance of the Shen residence. The happy mood she been carrying since she woke up immediately vanished when she caught sight of the woman dressed in pink apricot robes standing in front of her.
"Fourth Sister." Shen Yiyi smiled once she caught sight of her "You're here. We've been waiting for you."
Shen Miao glanced at her catching sight of that smile on her face she frowned. Something was wrong very wrong. Remembering what she just said to her she paused
"We," she said her eyes narrowed her brows furrowing further
Shen Yiyi stepped forward reaching for her hand. Shen Maio seeing this immediately stepped back successfully avoiding her. Shen Yiyi's smile faltered a bit then went back to normal like as if nothing happened, she stepped forward and held Shen Maio hand not giving her a chance to escape this time
Her eyes sharpened her smile becoming more genuine
" Yes, fourth sister.... We" she then gestured to the figure that Shen Maio hadn't seen when she walked out
Shen An.
Shen Maio frowned her whole face draining of color as her figures clenched. Her narrowed eyes observantly watching the charming figure dressed in white. If Shen Maio didn't like Shen Yiyi, then when it came to Shen An the only feeling left in her when she looked at this cousin of hers was disgust
He had inherited his father's features more as he grew up and now 18 this year two years younger than Shen Yao and his older brother Shen Ren who was still on the battlefield. He was ambitious and arrogant and also got every single bad habit one could have from visiting brothels, to gambling, to attacking anyone who challenged him all using his uncle's name and reputation as a shield and after his uncle's death his appetite became bigger and bigger his attention now going towards the military power in the hands of the first branch. And right now, the way he was looking towards Shen Maio was nothing good
Her hand twisted the cloth in her sleeve when she caught the hidden glint that flashed by his gaze when he looked at her
This annoying person, she was not a fool, of course she understood what his true intentions towards her were. Afterall, he made it very clear as his eyes turned more and more wrong as he glanced at her
He stepped forward reaching out for her hand
Something flickered in her eyes — brief, close to disgust she then stepped back.
Bai Yue and Bai Yin following behind her had smiling faces though their eyes were abnormally cold as they stepped forward blocking Shen An's path. Appearing between her and Shen An their aim obvious.
"Is there something you need young master Shen " Bai Yin asked her grip on the basket she was holding tightening
Shen An paused when he looked at them. Intimidated by the murderous aura emitting from the two when they glanced at him with those smiles. These two were soldiers trained by the couple themselves for the safety of their children they had personally trained all personnel that inhabited the residence of the first branch from just their physique one could easily identify they had practiced martial arts but now unfortunately only a few people in personally trained by the couple remained as the second branch had long started planting their own spies there except for personal help all the rest had been replaced
Shen An smiled slightly though it looked rigid and stepped back. His eyes directed at Shen Maio
Feeling embarrassed he snorted, he turned on his heels and headed towards his carriage, he got in then urged the driver to go
Shen Miao him go and breathed a sigh of relief wiping the hand he almost caught. Bai Yin and Bai Yue returned to their positions behind Shen Maio after he left
Shen Yiyi who had been too busy enjoying the show now stood in a daze her eyes turning to where her brother had disappeared from, her hand still holding Shen Maio who at this point pulled her hand away her eyes glancing at the shallow nail marks left from where Shen Yiyi held her
Jolted by the sudden movement she snapped out of it and immediately happened to see Shen Maio look down at the nail marks on her hand. Bai Yin and Bai Yue glanced at their young miss's hand worried
"it's fine" she waved her other hand" They are just shallow scratches... lets go "
Shen Yiyi panicked her brother just left her behind and she needed to get to school and wasn't willing to wait so though she felt that a bit annoyed she knew she knew that a wise person should know when to attack and when to defend
"Sister." she asked clumsily trying her best to act like a victim " Brother took the carriage without me and I— "
Shen Miao raised her hand to stop Yiyi they were already running late she felt if she let this girl open her mouth right now, they would both be penalized
Shen Yiyi's smile stayed in place though Her nails dug into her palm. Shen Miao caught her little move from the corner of her eye but right now she was in no mood to try and reason with her. She turned and walked to her carriage the bai twins of course followed her shooting warning looks at Shen Yiyi.
She slightly shivered under their cold looks and quickly followed.
The carriage was large enough made for comfort preferably the Shen couple had really thought of the journey their daughter would have to take and so it was made as comfortable and elegant ass money can buy. The two silently agreeing to seat in different sides
Each munching on the snacks prepared for them by their personal maids. Since Li Mei was injured, she couldn't come so Yiyi only had one by her side surnamed xen
Outside the capital moved past the windows a beautiful scene to behold early in the morning but neither of them seemed to be focussing on that as their eyes glanced outside but their minds were roaming around
The silence in the carriage was deafening with only the sound of occasional crunches from the snacks they were eating sounding around them.
She ate piece into her mouth her eyes dropping down to the scratches that had been cleaned up but were still visible even under her sleeve resolving to wake up earlier so as to avoid this exact situation
"Thinking about it she felt half an hour early should work" finally finding a solution she suddenly felt that the snacks she was eating tasted better than before and she ate more.
Across the carriage Shen Yiyi's fist clenched harder.
"She has to be feeling smug .........watching me have to lower my head to ask for help", Shen Yiyi thought catching sight of how Shen Maio was now eating more. "She has to be. little brat just you wait "
Shen Miao reached for another snack with the unbothered as Shen Yiyi gnashed her teeth in annoyance
The carriage continued moving by through the street.
Neither of them knew what the other was thinking maintaining a sort of temporary peace
