Chapter 2 - A Better Life

Potato braised rice. That was the theme of Nanami's dinner today.

Washed potatoes cut into cubes, paired with thawed frozen chicken and a tiny bit of expensive diced chili. Using these cheap ingredients bought during the supermarket's discount period, Nanami made the most sumptuous meal he'd had in a month.

"Potato braised chicken rice with tomato and green onion egg drop soup." Nanami brought the food to the table. The moment she smelled it, Dust White seemed to be activated; her ears perked up, and her tail wagged like a puppy's.

"As expected, controlling two bodies at once is still a bit difficult." Nanami sighed using Dust White's body. Although he had initially glimpsed how to control two bodies, it was limited to basic operations, such as mechanical repetitive labor or simply going somewhere. Once he wanted to perform more detailed actions, his main attention would be forced to shift to one of the bodies.

Just like now, the appetite and spontaneous movements brought by Dust White's body forced him to put his main attention on the Horse Girl's body.

Although a Horse Girl's appetite was staggering, with the help of the skill set, Dust White's appetite was already very small compared to Horse Girls of the same age.

After Dust White finished eating, Nanami sent her to draw water for a bath while he began his own meal.

"Let's check the status panel first." Nanami swallowed a mouthful of rice and swiped his finger through the air; data immediately overlaid his vision.

Next, Nanami shifted his gaze to the most important section—the part where he could acquire skills.

[Lucky Gacha Event] The Lucky Gacha Event is now live! Spend 200 PT for a 10-roll, guaranteeing at least one Normal-grade skill or higher! The featured core trait for this period is [Wheel of Destiny].

[Wheel of Destiny] (Unique) (Core Trait): No matter where you are, what helps you besides your own strength is elusive luck. Now, you shall master that elusive existence.

This also included various skills exclusive to the Wheel of Destiny. Generally, these involved methods to plunder luck, overdraw luck, store luck, or grant others a small bout of misfortune.

"Isn't this just from [Lord of the XX]? Truly lazy." Nanami looked at the low-quality gacha mobile game interface and complained weakly. However, these system interfaces possessed no intelligence; they were merely there to provide services.

Nanami hoped to pull more skills, but his luck always resulted in him getting attributes or experience instead. Aside from the two skills he got from the thirty free rolls during the beginner period, his luck had been abysmal.

His only stroke of luck was pulling [Temperance], a core trait of the same rank as [Wheel of Destiny].

Nanami glanced at the PT marker in the top right corner: 195 points. Earning these points was a grueling process; he had to study non-stop all day to get a decent amount. While regular work provided PT, it was an incredibly tiny amount. If he relied solely on work, it would take forever to afford a new skill pull.

"I won't think about it for now; there's work tomorrow too." Nanami cleared the dishes, only to suddenly realize that Dust White was sitting in the full bathtub with her clothes still on. "Damn, I forgot to tell her to undress."

Half an hour later, Dust White ran out of the bathroom wearing only an oversized white short-sleeved shirt and flopped onto the sofa in standby mode.

"Now it's time for my daily technician Massage!" Nanami cracked his neck and loosened his shoulders. He then placed his hands on Dust White's shapely, muscular calves and began a muscle-relaxing Massage.

[Massage LV1]: The best choice for relaxing muscles. However, please mind your pressure; nobody wants to hear strange noises.

Due to Nanami's unique situation, he ignored the warning in the description. After all, a soulless body couldn't possibly make sounds on its own no matter what.

After a simple dinner and washing up, Nanami moved Dust White to the bottom bunk and climbed into the top bunk himself. He opened the panel to play music. This was one of the few generous features of the panel, it could play music from his original world.

"I miss home."

"Yeah, I miss home."

Though he was alone, he pretended two people were talking; this was Nanami's only way to alleviate his loneliness.

"Should I consider racing? Running a Debut Race might improve our financial situation."

"Let's wait a bit longer. I'll check out the racecourse in a couple of days. The scouting skill can reveal their attributes and skills first. Besides, the uncles and aunts in the Shopping District treat us so well; I can't just quit halfway through the job."

"In this world, I still want to go home."

"Maybe... maybe I'll meet the three goddesses and they'll send me back."

The conversation ended there, falling into a long silence. Only the sound of the songs, which only Nanami could hear, flowed through the bedroom.

The next morning.

"Boss, I know I'm a hard worker, but this order is ridiculous. Delivering these ingredients urgently to Kasamatsu Tracen? Even if our Kasamatsu Shopping District isn't that far from Tracen, the workload for transporting this many ingredients..." Before Dust White could finish, the boss pulled out a small stack of bills and stuffed them into her hand.

"Help me out, Little White. For some reason, the cafeteria over there suddenly requested an emergency supply. You know we're short-staffed, and the truck driver just happened to go on another delivery today. So, Little White, please use the cart to haul it over." The boss looked apologetic.

"What I mean is, this is a lot. I might not be able to get there very quickly." Looking at the massive pile of flour and rice bags, Dust White gauged her strength and found she could just barely pull it.

"Don't worry, I'll treat you to a meal later. If Tracen wasn't such a major client, I wouldn't have accepted an order like this." The boss pulled out another stack of money and tucked it into Dust White's small hand.

"Don't worry, Boss!! Mission guaranteed!" Nanami felt the weight of the money and immediately had Dust White pull the cargo and start running.

Nothing noteworthy happened along the way until Dust White stood at the gates of Kasamatsu Tracen, drawing everyone's gaze. Only then did she remember something.

"The ash-gray Cinderella, Oguri Cap... I think she's from Kasamatsu," Dust White recalled the silly Gray Coat Horse Girl from the game.

Sure enough, while delivering the ingredients to the cafeteria chef, Dust White spotted the figure of the Gray Coat Horse Girl sitting silently in the corner, with empty plates stacked like a small mountain beside her.

"Ah, she gets to eat her fill for free? That's just too blissful," Dust White thought silently.
