Chapter 10 - The Shadow

"Who said that?"

Satya asked,

looking around him as if searching for the possibility of another person or to assess if that person was dangerous.

"I did,"

The unknown person answered mischievously.

"I know you said that, but who or what are you?" Satya asked.

"Just a being made of thoughts,"

The unknown voice answered plainly, as if amused by this whole situation.

"Every human is a being made of thoughts because we have consciousness,

So does that mean you are a human? If so, then why can't I see you?"

Satya asked the unknown voice.

"Human, huh... I have the memories of living as a human once, but does that make me human?"

"I suppose so... yes, but you don't have a physical body."

"I do have a physical manifestation. It's the shadow right behind you."

"Aaah..!!"

Satya was startled by the inconspicuous shadow behind him.

"So if you are a Shadow, how can you speak?" Satya asked, looking at The Shadow for its mouth.

"If I want to speak, even reality can't stop me. Who are you to question how I can speak?"

The Shadow grew colder, and Satya felt a chill emanating from it.

Satya carefully thought about his next words before saying,

"I am just a nobody, but if you are talking to me, there must be a reason, so can you tell me that reason."

"I just want to be treated as a..... person."

The Shadow said, looking at the lonely plains stretching forever.

"And I wanna talk to another person..."

Satya told The Shadow while looking at the stars.

Humans are by nature social animals, so even though the circumstances they face may be different,

They all want someone to talk to.

Suddenly, as the dopamine wore off, Satya felt a sense of dizziness and fell to the ground.

Satya was getting sleepy,

Not by his own choice but because he had been through so much, living in ash for so many days, Afraid of a forest that might kill him.

Burning trees and staying alive near that incandescent heat was truly not for the weak-willed.

But for Satya,

As long as he knew which path to walk on,

He would walk that path unafraid of the obstacles in that path,

Because to him these obstacles only made the path more interesting and unique, and without them the path would be too boring.

So he pushed through this obstacle as well.

Just a gentle breeze brushed past his face.

Satya was already feeling like he was about to fall unconscious,

Yet he willed himself to stay conscious.

Still, the exhaustion was getting to him, so he asked the decisive question.

"Will you harm me...?"

Satya asked the voice, still clinging to his fading consciousness.

"No..."

The Shadow answered, still looking at the plains.

Hearing that voice, Satya relaxed his guard for a moment, and that moment was enough for Satya to fall asleep.

And in that dream, Satya could hear voices as if his parents were calling out to him.

"Wake up...

Wake up....

Wake up!!!"

Satya woke up with a daze and looked around him as if to find the existence that had called him,

Yet he couldn't find anything around him.

Just then, he looked at the ground and saw a inconspicuous Shadow near him.

"Why did you wake me up?"

Satya asked in a disgruntled voice as if not bothered by the fact that he was speaking to a Shadow.

"It was honestly nothing, but I hoped for the only human I have seen after a long time to stay alive," The Shadow answered.

"Huh... What do you mean by that?"

Satya answered.

"Oh, it's not anything big, just that a pack of wolves is about half a day's distance away from us, and since I am a shadow, they can't do anything to me, but you are a being of flesh, so they can definitely harm you,"

The Shadow emphasized as if mocking Satya or warning him.

"How do you know a pack of wolves is half a day's distance away from this place?"

Satya asked as if he was wary of The Shadow.

"How I know the wolf pack is half a day's distance away from us and heading this way is because I was checking out the surroundings just in case,"

The Shadow explained.

"You sure do seem to explain yourself really well and know a lot of things, which seems unusual for a shadow. How many humans have you been around to get so much knowledge?"

Satya asked, still wary.

"Many, but that isn't important right now because currently there is a wolf pack heading this way, and they would sure love to tear you to shreds and eat you to pieces,"

The Shadow answered, wanting to switch the topic.

"Mhm... I agree there is a more urgent matter at hand, so I will focus on that first."

Satya checked his body.

His body was covered with scars and burn marks all over him.

He was feeling better now because of the wind caressing his body.

He was still tired, but now he could actually put up a fight against the wolves.

"So where do we go from here on?"

Satya asked the Shadow.

Satya had no one but the Shadow to rely on currently.

Even if the Shadow wanted something from him, he was willing to give it because his situation was just that peculiar.

"Follow my trail."

The Shadow moved toward the east,

And Satya followed.

{Escaping from the circle of life,

With a trail of fire,

I met my own shadow,

Which had another desire.

Following it out of desperation,

I had no choice,

But the journey may

Actually be interesting

With such things} )
