Chapter 10 - [10] Kurumu Kurono

(Moka POV – Dorms, Kai's Room)

"Mnngh…" A soft groan slips past my lips as I stir, half-buried beneath warm blankets. I instinctively curl deeper into them, hugging the softness, and chasing the last traces of sleep.

'It's so… comfy…'

"…What time is it…?" I mumble, my voice thick with drowsiness as I slowly sit up, the blankets slipping down my shoulders, before I quickly pull them up. "My alarm didn't—"

"…Huh?" I blink, as my gaze drops to my clothes. "I'm still in my uniform…?"

That's weird.

"…And this isn't my bed." I freeze. "…This isn't my room either?!"

The realizations all hit at once, making my heart skip a beat, and body tense.

And right as panic starts surging through me, I hear a soft click as the door opens.

"KYAAAAA—!" I shriek, grabbing the nearest pillow and launching it with everything I have. It cuts through the air like a cannonball, and I instantly regret doing so, realising just how powerful the throw was.

"Oh no—!" I yell as it slams into the intruder… but they aren't thrown off their feet.

"That was a good throw, Moka." They say, as they catch the pillow effortlessly.

But, I recognise the voice.

"Kai!" Relief floods through me, and I scramble off the bed and rush toward him, grabbing his arms, then his shoulders, quickly looking him over. "Are you okay?! Are you hurt anywhere?!"

"I'm fine." He says calmly, like nothing just happened. "It's a pillow, Moka… how could it hurt anyone?"

He lightly squeezes it, fluffing it up in demonstration. It does look… harmless.

"…That makes sense." I nod, still in doubt, but the facts speak for themselves.

Then, I remember the important issue. "…Where am I?"

"Oh, this?" Kai gestures casually around the room. "My room. I carried you back yesterday, after you passed out… but I didn't know where your room was. "He scratches the back of his head. "So… I let you sleep here."

"Oh…" My face warms. "I—I'm sorry for inconveniencing you…" I laugh nervously, fidgeting with the edge of my sleeve.

"It wasn't an inconvenience." He smiles easily. "You didn't disturb me at all."

That… somehow makes me feel even more embarrassed.

I glance toward the window, and realise…

"…It's still dark?" I tilt my head. "How long was I asleep?"

"The whole night." He shrugs. "It's around 4AM, and I just got back from a run."

"…4AM?!" My voice jumps an octave.

"S-so I really slept here all night…?" My face burns as I realise that I just spent the night in a boy's room.

"You're free to do it again whenever you wish." Kai says with a teasing grin. "Though, for next time, show me your room. Just in case you pass out again."

"…I won't pass out that easily!" I protest, pausing for a second as I think it over. "…Probably."

"I'd appreciate the directions either way." He laughs. "Otherwise, how would I find you outside of school?"

"Okay!" I nod quickly, grateful for the change in topic. "I'll show you. I need to change clothes too, since school will start soon."

"Sounds good." He says, as we start toward the door, but…

"…Um." I begin.

"Something wrong?" Kai stops immediately, looking concerned.

"…I didn't get dinner last night…" I mumble, my voice small as I look away. "So I was wondering if…"

He raises an eyebrow, then smiles knowingly. "You want to drink my blood?"

"…If that's okay…" I peek at him nervously.

"I told you already." He sighs. "I don't mind. But this time… tell me if anything feels weird."

"…Weird?" I tilt my head, confused.

"There's a chance my blood will taste different. Just let me know if it tastes worse." He admits.

"Okay." I nod, stepping closer. He leans down without hesitation, exposing his neck.

Then carefully and gently, I bring my lips to his skin and… tap.

My fangs… don't go in.

"…Huh?" I blink, then try again, pressing a little harder… and still nothing. "…Why is it… so hard?"

My brows knit together in confusion as I pull back slightly.

'What do I do?' I panic slightly. 'I don't want to hurt him by biting too hard, but…'

"I'm pretty durable." Kai says calmly, like he can read my thoughts. "Don't hold back."

"…J-just a little more, okay?" I say cautiously, and he nods.

I lean in again, but this time… I bite harder, slowly increasing the strength until… my fangs pierce through, sinking in smoothly.

Chomp.

"Mhm—" I hum as Kai's warm blood floods my mouth.

My eyes flutter shut before I even realise it, and a soft sigh escapes me as I lean into him, arms wrapping around his shoulders almost instinctively, pulling him closer as I drink.

One gulp, followed by another, as warmth spreads through my body with every swallow, richer than before. The flavour is deeper, fuller, and more addicting with each passing moment.

'Why… why does it taste so… amazing…?'

Kai's blood has always been delicious. No, more than that. It's something I crave without even meaning to.

But today… it's so much better.

I don't stop drinking, nor do I want to stop.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I know I should. That I'm probably drinking too much. But I know Kai will let me know when it's too much… but he doesn't. And a small, selfish part of me is relieved.

So I keep going, until…

"Phew…" I finally pull back, breath leaving me in a soft, satisfied groan.

"I'm… so full…" I mumble, a little dazed as I rest a hand over my stomach. "How much did I even drink…?"

Even the thought of another sip makes me shake my head slightly, no matter the taste. No more. Not a drop.

"That's the weird part." Kai says, sounding more curious than concerned. "It didn't feel like you drank much at all."

"Huh…?" I blink sluggishly, trying to process that.

"I'm serious." He continues. "I don't feel lightheaded or fatigued."

"As long as you're okay…" I murmur, the words trailing off into a yawn, as a wave of drowsiness crashes into me out of nowhere. "I don't know why… but I feel really sleepy again…"

My eyelids droop despite my best efforts.

"Maybe you overate?" Kai suggests.

"…Maybe…" I mumble, already half-asleep. "But you tasted even better today… I couldn't stop…" My voice fades as I feel myself being gently guided backward, only to crash gently into soft sheets and warm blankets.

By the time I realise what's happening, I'm already tucked in.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it." Kai's voice reaches my ears, sounding deeply amused. "Get some rest. I doubt you could even stay up anyway."

"…Mhm…" I hum faintly, curling into the bed without resistance.

'Just a short nap…' I think as I drift off. 'That's all I need…'

(Kai POV – Yokai Academy)

The days after Saizo were relatively normal.

Besides the death glares from male students, life moved on like nothing ever happened. I still reported the incident, mostly to avoid unnecessary trouble later, but Saizo didn't show up again after that day.

'…Not that I'm complaining.'

Whether through his own choice, or someone else's, I'm glad he's gone.

But not everything stays the same. The first change becomes obvious pretty quickly.

Since I keep Heavenly Restriction active at all times, at least until I have more useful abilities, my blood tastes amazing… and is far more nutritious.

Which doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things… but to Moka, it makes her full when she drinks much less, and she remains full for longer.

And as a consequence… whenever she drinks too much…

"Mmm… Kai… I feel sleepy…" Moka murmurs lazily.

"…Again?" I ask with a helpless sigh.

She sways slightly on her feet before leaning into me. "…Sorry…"

She's too cute to ever be annoyed with, and of anything, I find her stumbling about in a daze adorable. The negative being that it interferes with pretty much every other aspect of her day.

But, unfortunately, we eventually found a balance, and I lost sleepy Moka for the most part.

The second change is much more subtle. With my enhanced senses, I noticed it immediately…

The feeling of being watched. But I wasn't too concerned, already knowing who is behind it.

And as the days passed, the sensation became more frequent and intense. And I'm sure, that they'll make their move soon.

'I'm curious how this'll turn out.' I think.

"Does it ever get lonely… being the only human here?" Moka asks softly as we walk along the path to the academy, her gaze drifting toward me.

I glance at her, then smile.

"I could ask you the same thing." I reply. "You're the only vampire here too, aren't you?"

"…Ah." She blinks, then lets out a small, sheepish laugh. "I guess so."

"But no." I continue, shaking my head. "It doesn't get lonely. I've got you."

For a second, she just stares at me, then her expression softens, a shy smile blooming across her face.

"I feel the same way." She says, her voice warm. "So… if there's ever anything you need… anything at all… just tell me, okay?"

I raise an eyebrow, leaning in just a little. "Anything?"

"Eh?" She blinks, caught off guard, but still nods. "Y-yeah."

I hum, pretending to think it over seriously.

"Then my request is simple." I say, my tone turning firm. "Don't make offers like that so easily."

"…Huh?"

"Someone could take advantage of you." I explain. "You shouldn't trust people that much."

Moka tilts her head. "But I only said that to you."

"…That's not the point." I sigh.

"It doesn't matter." She insists, her voice gentle but certain. "You wouldn't do anything bad, and I trust you."

"…You shouldn't be so sure." I mutter, which makes her giggle, not taking my warning seriously at all.

"I am." There's no hesitation in her voice. Just simple, unwavering trust. "…So." She adds, stepping ahead of me slightly, hands clasped behind her back, "just remember it for when you need it."

Her steps quicken, like she's suddenly shy about what she just said. I watch her for a moment… then sigh, a small smile tugging at my lips as I follow after her.

The rest of the day passes quietly as classes blur together, conversations drift in and out, and nothing unusual happens.

Still, I continue to feel that persistent gaze, but with Moka by my side the entire day, nothing comes of it.

And by the time evening rolls around and we part ways at the dorms, I'm left with a quiet sense of… unfinished anticipation.

'Was I wrong?' I wonder. 'I was sure it'd be today.'

I could sense the impatience… but since nothing happened, I shrug it off and head inside.

Hours pass as the night deepens, and I simply continue training, steadily improving my body, until I hear a light tap.

"Hm?"

Another faint sound reaches my ears, and it's coming from the window. And when I step closer… I see her.

Pressed lightly against the glass, fingers barely gripping the ledge, a girl.

Light, shoulder length, ocean blue hair, exquisitely beautiful features, and a pair of vivid purple eyes, wide with surprise as they meet mine.

"…Well, well." A smirk tugs at my lips as I slide the window open. "What do we have here?" I lean slightly against the frame, studying her. "And why exactly are you peeking into my room this late at night… miss…?"

"P-please…" She breathes, her voice weak and trembling. "Help… me…"

Her grip slips slightly, like she might fall at any second.

I stare at her blankly.

'…Really?' My gaze flicks to where she's clinging. 'Who even ends up there by accident? And who'd be dumb enough to fall for it.'

But when her eyes lock onto mine, I feel a subtle pulse of energy slipping towards me, trying to enter my mind… and do nothing.

Charm magic.

'Alright… let's play along.' A slow smile spreads across my face as I let my expression soften, just slightly.

"Careful." I say, reaching out. "You're going to fall."

Her hand meets mine. It's small and delicate. And in one smooth motion, I pull her up, guiding her inside.

She stumbles just a little as her feet touch the floor, leaning closer than necessary.

"…Thank you." She murmurs, voice still sounding soft and fragile.

"Don't mention it." I reply easily, but my eyes don't leave her for a second.

'Now then… what tricks are you going to try… Kurumu Kurono?'

A/N: Hello Everyone! How are you all? If you've enjoyed the chapter and book thus far, please consider leaving me some comments, reviews, or power stones. It really helps the book out.

And sorry for the late update. Didn't realise how long it's been😭. The thing is, since I'm writing 4 fics (there's a Genshin one on Patreon, that's free as well, but will come here once it reaches 10 chapters), I skip one week so I can fill the 10 advanced ones, and coupled with some delays...yeah🫠. Deepest apologies.

So, finally introducing the next love interest, albeit, it won't look that way for a while. To be honest, this was pretty much the only way for them to meet. Given that Moka is present 24/7, she didn't have many options. And I even considered dream entering, but he doesn't sleep, nor can she even invade his dreams because of Heavenly Restriction.

Basically, that roll messed up a lot of things she had going for her🤣. At least Natural Restoration would've given her some time to do stuff before being cleared, but nope.

As for his blood. I'm going with what Moka needs being vitality in the blood, rather than energy. So, his vitality rises, so does flavour. And since the ability enhances everything, I did this. Ain't sleepy Moka cute? Albeit, she seems more like Drunk Moka from the way she's been acting. But Moka is always gonna be Cute Moka. Anyway, I digress.

Majority of the plot regarding her intro for butchered, since it relied on Kai getting pissed at Moka drinking his blood (Tsukune in the original), to allow for a lot of things to happen. But, I've found alternatives, so no worries. Vampire + Succubus draining him dry? Sounds like the dream🙂‍↕️
