Chapter 4 - The Presence That Watches

Chapter 4: Ayusha couldn't shake the feeling that she was no longer alone. Even after the chaos in the classroom had settled and the broken fan was removed, something inside her refused to calm down. She had changed the outcome this time—she had saved people. That thought should have made her feel better, stronger even. But instead, it left her with a deeper sense of unease.

Because of what she had seen.

That shadow.

It wasn't part of the vision.

It hadn't been something she imagined in the future.

It was there.

Watching.

And that meant—

Something else was involved.

As Ayusha walked home that afternoon, her steps felt slower than usual. The streets looked the same, the sounds of people talking and vehicles passing filled the air like always, but she couldn't focus on any of it. Her mind was stuck on one thought.

"What was that thing?" she whispered to herself.

The image replayed in her head—the faint figure, standing outside, disappearing the moment she noticed it.

It didn't feel like a coincidence.

It felt intentional.

Like it didn't want to be seen.

"But I saw it…" she said quietly.

Her grip tightened slightly on her bag.

"And it saw me too."

That realization made her heart beat faster.

For the first time since everything started, Ayusha wasn't just afraid of the future.

She was afraid of the present.

That night, she couldn't stay still. She kept walking around her room, her thoughts restless, her senses alert. Every small sound made her turn her head. Every shadow in the corner of her room made her pause.

"This is getting out of control…" she muttered.

She stopped near her window, staring at her reflection in the glass. The darkness outside made it easier to see herself, but something about it felt… off.

Her reflection looked normal.

But her eyes—

They didn't feel the same.

"You're just scared," she told herself.

But the feeling didn't go away.

Instead, it grew stronger.

Slowly—

She leaned closer to the window.

And that's when she saw it.

Not clearly.

Not fully.

But enough.

A flicker.

Right behind her reflection.

Ayusha froze.

Her breath caught in her throat.

"That's not…" she whispered.

Her heart began to race as she slowly turned around.

But there was nothing there.

The room was empty.

Completely silent.

She turned back to the window again.

And for a moment—

Everything looked normal.

But the feeling remained.

That she wasn't alone.

That something was there.

Watching.

Waiting.

Ayusha stepped back slowly, her body tense.

"This isn't just in my head," she said quietly.

Her voice trembled slightly.

Because deep inside—

She knew it was real.

That night, sleep didn't come easily.

And when it did—

The dream returned.

But this time—

It wasn't just a vision.

Ayusha found herself standing in a dark, empty space. There were no walls, no ceiling, no familiar surroundings. Just darkness stretching endlessly in every direction.

"This isn't the classroom…" she whispered.

Her voice echoed strangely.

"Where am I?"

No answer came.

The silence felt heavy, almost suffocating.

Ayusha took a cautious step forward.

Then another.

Her footsteps made no sound.

As if she wasn't standing on anything at all.

"This doesn't feel like before…" she said.

Her heart began to beat faster.

There was no clear danger.

No visible threat.

But the feeling—

It was there.

Stronger than ever.

And then—

She heard it.

A whisper.

Soft.

Faint.

Almost impossible to understand.

Ayusha turned quickly.

"Who's there?" she called out.

The whisper continued.

But the words were unclear.

Broken.

Like something trying to speak, but unable to form complete sentences.

"Show yourself!" she said, her voice stronger now.

The whisper stopped.

Silence returned.

For a brief moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

A shape began to form in the darkness.

Slowly.

Unnaturally.

Like shadows gathering together.

Ayusha's breath became uneven.

"No…" she whispered.

The shape grew clearer.

Darker.

A figure.

Standing in front of her.

Not fully human.

Not fully anything.

Just a presence.

Ayusha stepped back instinctively.

"What are you?" she asked.

Her voice trembled.

The figure didn't move.

It didn't speak.

But it felt…

Alive.

The same feeling she had sensed before.

But stronger.

Much stronger.

"This is real…" she realized.

Her heart pounded loudly in her chest.

"This is the thing that's been watching me."

The shadow flickered slightly.

As if reacting to her thoughts.

Ayusha's fear began to rise.

But at the same time—

Something inside her told her to stay.

To not run.

To face it.

"Why are you following me?" she asked.

The shadow didn't respond.

But the air around her grew heavier.

The whisper returned.

Slightly clearer this time.

But still not enough to understand.

Ayusha tried to focus.

Tried to listen carefully.

"What are you saying?" she asked.

The shadow flickered again.

And for a brief moment—

It moved.

Not toward her.

But around her.

Circling her slowly.

Ayusha stood still, her breathing uneven.

Her eyes followed its movement carefully.

"Don't come closer…" she whispered.

But the shadow didn't stop.

It continued moving.

Closer.

Closer.

Until—

It was right in front of her.

Ayusha froze.

Her body refused to move.

Her mind filled with fear.

And then—

The whisper became clear.

Just one word.

"Why…"

Ayusha's eyes widened.

"Why?" she repeated.

The shadow flickered violently.

The darkness around them shifted.

The word echoed again.

"Why…"

Ayusha felt a chill run through her entire body.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

But there was no answer.

Only the same word.

Repeating.

Over and over.

"Why…"

The sound grew louder.

Filling the empty space.

Ayusha covered her ears, trying to block it out.

"Stop!" she shouted.

But it didn't stop.

The shadow moved suddenly—

Reaching toward her.

And in the next second—

Everything went black.

Ayusha woke up with a sharp gasp, her body trembling, her breathing uneven.

"No…" she whispered.

Her room was dark.

Silent.

But the feeling remained.

The same word echoed in her mind.

"Why…"

Ayusha sat there, her hands shaking slightly.

"This isn't just about the future anymore…" she realized.

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"This is something else."

Something deeper.

Something connected to her in a way she didn't understand.

And whatever it was—

It was getting closer.
