Chapter 5 - The Unstable Bond Awakens Fully

Aria couldn't breathe properly.

Not because of fear this time.

But because Kael was still holding her.

His arms hadn't moved.

Neither had hers.

And for a brief, dangerous moment, the battlefield around them didn't exist anymore.

Only silence.

Only heat.

Only the strange, unbearable awareness of how close they were.

Then—

A distant groan snapped reality back into place.

Aria flinched instantly and pulled away.

Kael released her immediately, stepping back like nothing had happened.

Like the moment meant nothing.

But Aria felt it.

The bond had reacted again.

Violently.

Her chest tightened.

"What is happening to me…" she whispered.

Kael didn't answer right away.

His eyes were still locked on her.

Not the destroyed hall.

Not the fallen rogues.

Her.

Finally, he spoke.

"You're destabilizing it."

Aria frowned sharply.

"Me? I didn't ask for any of this!"

Kael stepped forward slightly.

The air shifted again.

The bond responded instantly—like a pulse between them.

Aria felt it.

And so did he.

Kael's jaw tightened.

"You felt that," he said.

Aria swallowed.

"…yes."

A pause.

Then Kael's voice dropped lower.

"That is the problem."

Before Aria could respond, loud footsteps echoed from the corridor outside.

Multiple.

Fast.

Urgent.

Kael turned immediately, his entire presence shifting back into command mode.

"Contain the breach," he ordered sharply.

Warriors rushed past the broken doorway.

The hall was quickly filling with Blackfang soldiers, sealing exits, dragging unconscious rogues away.

Aria stood frozen in the middle of it all.

She felt like she was standing inside a storm she had somehow created.

One of the warriors bowed quickly to Kael.

"Alpha, the outer perimeter has been reinforced. But… more rogues are approaching."

Kael didn't look away from Aria.

"Numbers?"

"Unknown. But they are organized. This is not a raid—it's a formation."

That word made Aria uneasy.

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Fracture hunters," he muttered.

Aria immediately stepped forward.

"What is this 'fracture' everyone keeps saying? Explain it to me properly!"

Kael finally turned to her fully.

The room quieted instantly.

Even the warriors stepped back.

When Kael looked like that, no one interrupted.

But Aria didn't care anymore.

She was shaking—but angry now.

"Stop talking around me like I'm some object!" she snapped. "If I'm the reason they're attacking, I deserve to know why!"

A heavy silence followed.

Kael studied her face for a long moment.

Then—

"Leave us," he ordered.

The warriors hesitated.

"Alpha—"

"Leave."

No hesitation this time.

They obeyed instantly.

The hall emptied within seconds.

Only Aria and Kael remained.

And the bodies of fallen rogues scattered around them.

The silence felt heavier than before.

Kael finally spoke.

"The Fracture is a break in the ancient lunar seal."

Aria frowned.

"That doesn't explain anything."

Kael stepped closer.

"Then understand this," he said. "It is what happens when the bond between Alpha and Moon Vessel becomes unstable."

Aria stiffened.

"So… me."

Kael didn't deny it.

"Yes."

That single word felt like a verdict.

Aria shook her head.

"I didn't cause this. I didn't even know you existed until you dragged me here!"

Kael's gaze sharpened slightly.

"It doesn't matter what you knew."

Aria stepped back.

"Of course it matters!"

Kael's voice lowered.

"No. It doesn't."

A pause.

The bond pulsed again—softly this time.

But noticeable.

Aria touched her chest instinctively.

"I can feel it again…" she whispered.

Kael noticed immediately.

"So can I."

Aria looked up sharply.

"That means what, exactly?"

Kael didn't answer right away.

His eyes lingered on her face again.

Like he was calculating something.

Like he was trying to resist something.

Then—

"It means the bond is accelerating."

Aria's stomach dropped.

"Accelerating to what?"

Kael's expression darkened slightly.

"Completion."

Silence.

The word felt wrong in the air.

Aria stepped back again.

"I want no part of that."

Kael moved instantly.

Faster than before.

He grabbed her wrist.

Not painfully.

But firmly.

"You don't understand what rejection will do now," he said.

Aria tried to pull away.

"Let me go."

Kael didn't release her.

"You felt the power just now," he continued. "That was only a fraction of what the bond is capable of."

Aria's voice trembled slightly.

"I don't care."

Kael stepped closer.

"Liar."

That word hit differently.

Aria froze.

Kael watched her closely.

"You felt it," he repeated. "The connection. The pull. You reacted before thinking."

Aria looked away sharply.

"I didn't mean to."

Kael's grip loosened slightly—but didn't release her.

"That is exactly the problem."

A pause.

Then Kael said something quieter.

"If you lose control again… you could kill half this fortress without meaning to."

Aria went still.

"…what?"

Kael didn't exaggerate.

He never did.

Aria's voice dropped.

"I don't want that."

Kael nodded slightly.

"Then stop resisting blindly."

Aria snapped her gaze back at him.

"So what—you want me to accept being tied to you forever?"

A beat of silence.

Then Kael said—

"Yes."

The word landed like a strike.

Aria pulled her wrist away sharply.

"No."

The bond reacted instantly.

A sharp pulse of energy passed between them.

Both of them felt it.

Kael's eyes darkened slightly.

"Do not do that," he warned.

Aria stepped back.

"Or what?"

A dangerous silence.

Kael didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked at her like he was holding back something violent.

Then—

"You will not like the alternative."

Aria felt her heart race.

But before she could respond—

A loud horn echoed through the fortress.

Not alarm.

Not warning.

A war signal.

Kael turned instantly.

Aria's breath caught.

"What now?" she whispered.

A warrior burst into the hall.

"Alpha!" he shouted. "The northern gate has collapsed!"

Kael's expression changed immediately.

"Impossible," he said coldly.

The warrior shook his head.

"It wasn't force. It was… dissolved."

Kael's eyes narrowed dangerously.

Aria felt it immediately.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

Kael released her and turned fully.

"Prepare defensive formation," he ordered instantly.

The warrior hesitated.

"Alpha… there's something else."

Kael's voice sharpened.

"Speak."

The warrior looked nervous now.

"They are not entering as rogues this time."

Kael went still.

Aria felt the tension spike.

"What do you mean?" Kael asked quietly.

The warrior swallowed.

"They are walking through the gate like they belong here."

Silence.

Then Kael's eyes darkened.

"…so it has begun."

Aria stepped forward.

"What has begun?"

Kael didn't answer her immediately.

Instead, he turned slightly toward her.

And for the first time—

There was warning in his eyes.

"Stay behind me," he said.

Aria frowned.

"I'm tired of being told—"

"Behind me," he repeated, firmer.

Something in his tone made her stop.

This wasn't command.

This was protection.

Before she could argue again—

The entire fortress shook.

A low vibration spread through the stone.

Not explosion.

Not impact.

Presence.

Aria felt it immediately.

Cold.

Heavy.

Wrong.

Kael felt it too.

His jaw tightened.

And then—

The entrance to the hall darkened.

Something was standing there.

Not a rogue.

Not a wolf.

Something worse.

It stepped forward slowly.

And Aria felt her breath catch.

Because it looked at her immediately.

Not Kael.

Her.

"Moon Vessel…" it said softly.

Its voice didn't echo.

It spread.

Aria stepped back instinctively.

"What is that…" she whispered.

Kael moved instantly in front of her.

Blocking her completely.

"Leave," Kael said coldly.

The figure tilted its head.

"You are protecting instability."

Kael's aura shifted violently.

"Last warning."

The figure smiled slightly.

"You cannot protect what is already fractured."

Aria felt the bond react sharply.

Pain flashed through her neck.

She gasped.

Kael turned slightly.

"Do not respond to it," he said sharply.

Aria clenched her jaw.

"I'm not—"

The figure raised its hand.

And the entire hall dimmed.

Aria felt something pull at her mind.

Not physical.

Mental.

The bond screamed.

Kael reacted instantly.

He grabbed her shoulders.

"Do NOT look at it!" he ordered.

But it was too late.

Aria had already seen it.

And suddenly—

She wasn't in the hall anymore.

She was falling.

Into darkness.

And in the darkness—

A voice whispered.

"You were never meant to bond with him."

Aria gasped.

And the world broke again.
