The city was loud voices,footsteps,carts rolling over the ground. Everything moved to fast. But cassie stood still. She was standing near a wall it was a narrow alley she watched the bakery across the street
The smell drifted warm breads the air reached her like a pull she was hungry really hungry she watched the streets first left right people passing a guard father down the road a few customers at the stall.
No one was paying attention to her. good. Cassie stepped out of the alley she walked the street keeping her head down her hand brushed lightly against her leg where the knife was hidden she is not gonna use it now just in case somthing happens.
She reached the bakery bread stacked neatly golden fresh just one. one is enough her sister is waiting she is only 14 to young to be worrying abt where the next meal come from.
There parents are gone so it was just two of them she exhaled she walked her hand slid across the table and grabbed a small loaf she tucked it under her sleeves now she just has to walk out normally.
She acted normal but she felt someone staring her at the back of her neck she slowly looked at behind her shoulders the baker was staring right at her oh god she is done for.
The baker talked "hey" cassie stopped she didnt turn around right away. She already knew. slowly.....She turned the men was staring at her not confused not unsure certain.
"Are you stealing from me" he asked. The people in the bakery all look at her way there were a lot of eyes staring at her she didnt speak she stood there holding her ground.
The bread was still hidden under her sleeves so he can't see it too many people are watching no this isn't how she want it to happen the baker stepped closer."give it back" his voice was louder now cassie took a step back
She toke a breath to calm herself down but before she could take another step back his hand grabbed her wrist firm rough "thief" that word landed hard people started whispering. turning, watching, pointing.
She didnt panic her eyes stayed sharp she looked at the baker then at the crowd then his grip she tested it slightly...just to enough to feel how strong he is "oh wow he is strong" her bread still hidden tho and then she saw the guard that she saw while ag" oh shit".
The guard eyes went to her and then the baker "what is going on" he asked, the baker said "she tried to steal from me" she griped her bread the guard look at her waiting for her respond.
She smiled "i don't know what this guy is talking abt" she said her voice steady "i didn't steal anything" the baker scoffed "she is lying i saw her take it"
Cassie let out a breath she was annoyed "come on.... really?" She said shaking her head lightly "why would i steal a bread in the middle of the streets" the baker got closer to her "yes you did". "No i didnt"
Her voice stayed even but inside she was shaking the baker suddenly grabbed her clothes "give it back" cassie immediately moved away "hey don't touch me" his finger grabbed at fabric near her sleeve where the bread is hidden.
Her smile disappeared "get off me" "give it back" he snapped "i dont have anything what the hell stop" she tried pulling away he tighten his grip people started watching more crowds whispering. She shifted her weight trying to break his hold "let go" "no"
They struggled together quick messy and then the bread slipped fell straight out of her sleeve hit the ground a small dull sound the crowd got quite everything was quite for a sec cassie looked down the ground slowly it was there on the ground "omg " she lifted her head wow she got cought she thought the baker pointed at the ground " see she is a thief" he said.
The guard got closer "is that true" cassie looked at him "well can't you see" the crowd went quite and the moment shifted.
The guard moved toke her she let them take her firm hands on her arms guided her forward to the crowd she walked on her legs she don't have to be dragged the bread lay behind her on the ground still warm still there it didnt matter now.
Her eyes moved forward until she cought a familiar person her sister standing on the crowds she was frozen staring at her cassie talked "i'll come back until then take care"
Her sister didnt say anything just looking at her stood there watching her eyes wide worried. Cassie held the gaze for one second. Then turned her head back forward the guard walked her further and further from everything the crowd disappeared behind her but the image of her sister stayed.
They toke her away the prison come to view
It was big bigger then she expected woah she thought tall stones walls iron gates how she gonna get away from this how she gonna ran she thought she looked everywhere somthing feel off of this prison she stayed quite as they led her inside the air changed immediately.
The sound of the gets closing behind her echoed through the building footsteps followed as she was taken in a narrow stairs the guard stayed behind her the whole time she didnt look back not until they stopped a door a locked door the guard opened the door.
Cassie stepped inside and froze someone else was there a man chained what the hell she thought his whole body was chained heavy chains his head was lowered sitting still like he had been there for a while.
Cassie blinked. "Wait" she turned quickly and knocked the door "hey hey i think you made a mistake" the guard looked at her back "huh" he said "there is a man in the cell" she said Pointing at the man "this isn't right"
The guard laughed in her face "oh this isn't a normal cell your right" his voice calm almost amused "what do you mean" she said "men and women don't belong in the same cell" he said "this place isn't normal" he glanced at the other cells "and the people here arent normal either" he laughed and left he didnt explain shit what doee he mean nor normal . What the hell
