BANG.
Speaker Corvain struck the heavy wooden sounding block with his gavel. The marble Senate chamber was a boiling ocean of noise. Hawks shouted furiously across the central aisle, pointing accusatory fingers at the Believer benches.
"Order," Corvain said.
He did not yell. He simply projected his voice with the practiced, effortless weight of a man who controlled the room. He spoke in formal, complete sentences.
"This chamber will find its decorum, or I will have the sergeants-at-arms find it for you," Corvain warned.
The shouting slowly subsided into a low, angry murmur.
A Hawk senator stood up near the front row, his face red with outrage. "The evidence presented is highly irregular, Speaker! It is a circumstantial fabrication. Dismiss it immediately."
Corvain looked down his nose at the flushed politician. He adjusted his silver spectacles.
