Chapter 5 - “Pallet Town”

Pallet Town

A town that is fresh and peaceful—small yet beautiful.

The pure white color that symbolizes the beginning of a journey.

As Red controlled Red and stepped out of his house, a line of poetic text appeared in the upper-right corner of the screen before slowly fading away.

A gentle melody flowed through the air.

Soft sunlight bathed the town, wrapping everything in a warm and comforting atmosphere.

Several Spearow chirped noisily from the rooftops. Across the rolling fields, vibrant seas of flowers swayed with the wind, radiating quiet warmth.

A few Pokémon darted through the blossoms, playing together and forming a peaceful, harmonious scene.

"So… which way am I supposed to go?"

Red guided Red around the house twice and quickly realized something.

Every path was open.

Movement was completely free—clearly an open-world design, where all actions were directed by the player's own choices.

"An open world? That's a bold design. I guess that's Brother Rei Akagi for you…" Green raised an eyebrow with interest.

"Follow the road in front of the house to the building next door. Didn't Mom say Professor Oak was there?"

Red ignored him—but still followed the suggestion.

With the calm BGM accompanying his footsteps, they soon arrived at a quaint little villa.

Red pushed the door open.

Inside the living room, a beautiful young woman was chatting happily with a Researcher Bain a white lab coat.

"That's my sister…" Green recognized Daisy Oak immediately.

Then his gaze shifted to the researcher beside her.

"And Brother Rei Akagi? Wait—why is he in my house?"

He muttered to himself but didn't dwell on it, instead directing Red again.

"Go trigger the event."

Red curled his lip.

He had no intention of listening to orders.

Ignoring the dialogue prompt, he began controlling Red to poke around the room—checking every corner, interacting with everything he could find.

Only after confirming there were no hidden items did he finally walk up to the two characters.

Daisy: "Hi, Red! Green is my younger brother. He's over at Grandpa's laboratory."

Handsome Researcher: "Oh right, take this. Don't get lost."

Red received the Town Map from the handsome researcher!

The Town Map was placed in the Key Items pocket.

"Got the map!"

Red immediately opened his bag and used it.

A sleek, futuristic tablet activated, projecting a holographic 3D map of the Kanto region.

However, aside from Pallet Town, the rest of the map was covered in gray fog—clearly waiting to be unlocked through exploration.

Memorizing the direction of the laboratory, Red set off.

The wild Pokémon in town were unusually gentle, almost like residents themselves. When Red approached, they simply scurried away.

Soon he reached the Pokémon Research Lab, where many people were gathered.

Red fully embraced his explorer instincts.

Red weaved through the crowd, talking to everyone and interacting with every object in hopes of discovering hidden items.

Unfortunately, after wandering around for a while, he didn't find Professor Oak.

Instead, he ran into his rival—Green.

Green: "What? Only my sister's home? Grandpa isn't here."

"If Professor Oak isn't at the lab, where could he be?" Yellow asked softly.

Red looked toward Green.

"So… what do we do next?"

"Who cares?" Blue's eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Let's check outside the town! This game is way more interesting than I expected. There must be good stuff out there!"

Red didn't argue.

He guided Red toward the outskirts of town.

Just as he was about to step beyond Pallet Town's boundary—

A huge red exclamation mark suddenly popped up above his head!

A white-haired old man came running from behind, panting as he grabbed Red's shoulder.

Oak: "Wait! It's too dangerous!"

Oak: "Wild Pokémon live outside the town. You need your own Pokémon to protect yourself."

Oak: "I know—come with me."

Without another word, Professor Oak dragged Red back to the laboratory.

Inside the lab, Red and Green stood facing him.

Oak: "Green? Oh right, I called you two here! Haha!"

Scratching his head, Professor Oak suddenly seemed to remember something. Like a magician pulling a trick, he produced three Poké Balls from his lab coat and placed them on the table.

Oak: "When I was young, I was quite a skilled Pokémon Trainer."

Oak: "But now I'm old! These three Pokémon are all I have left. Choose one of them—it will become your partner."

Green glanced at Red and gave an extremely arrogant grin.

Green: "You go first. No matter which one you choose, you still won't beat me."

The three Poké Balls opened on the screen, revealing the Pokémon inside:

Bulbasaur

Squirtle

Charmander

"A starter partner, huh… Let me think."

Red stroked his chin, trapped in a difficult choice.

And then—

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Three Poké Balls opened almost simultaneously in the real world!

Red's Venusaur, Blue's Blastoise, and Green's Charizard all leapt out of their Poké Balls at the same time.

They gathered around Red, staring at him expectantly.

Even the nearby Pikachu and Poliwrath wandered over to watch the spectacle.

If one had to say which Pokémon was Red's true original partner…

As long as Poliwrath lives, the rest of you are merely concubines.

The pressure instantly fell on Red.

Cold sweat broke out across his forehead as he looked desperately toward Green for help.

Green silently turned his head away.

Don't look at me. I don't know you.

Venusaur lazily wrapped a vine around Red's wrist.

Charizard turned its head away with fake indifference—but its feet shuffled closer to Red.

Blastoise was even more direct, placing its heavy turtle hands firmly on Red's shoulders.

"Um…"

Red had barely opened his mouth when—

Crackle—

Three intense gazes collided in midair like sparks igniting a battlefield.

The tension exploded instantly.

"How can you argue over something like this?"

Yellow stepped forward with her hands on her hips.

She gently brushed Blastoise's claws and Venusaur's vines away, then glared at Charizard.

"You too. No fighting!"

Under Yellow's calm yet firm gaze, the three powerful Pokémon immediately wilted like frostbitten vegetables.

They obediently nodded.

Only then did Yellow turn back to Red, her tone gentle but decisive.

"Since Brother Rei Akagi gave you a symbolic Pokémon in the game, don't hesitate."

"Choose Charmander."

Charizard's eyes lit up—only to be suppressed again by a glance from Yellow.

Feeling as if he had just been pardoned from execution, Red quickly selected Charmander in the game.

Red received Charmander from Professor Oak!

Green: "Hmph! Charmander, huh? Then I'll take Squirtle!"

Grabbing Squirtle's Poké Ball, Green didn't even give Red time to react.

He seized Red's arm and dragged him to the lab's battle field.

Green: "Let's test our Pokémon! Come on—I'll defeat you!"

Smack!

Green covered his face in agony, his expression twisting behind his fingers.

That's supposed to be me?

How could that possibly be me?

Letting Red pick first was one thing—but being this arrogant too?

Brother Rei Akagi… what kind of image do you have of me?!

Just as Green was internally screaming, an intense battle theme suddenly exploded from the speakers.

A bold system notification filled the center of the screen:

"Pokémon Battles use a Real-Time Command System!"

"Please ensure microphone permissions are enabled!"

"Good luck, Trainer!"

"Real-time command?!"

Red's eyes blazed with excitement.

He stared at the screen, where Red and Green faced each other—Charmander and Squirtle ready to fight at their sides.

Green: "Go! Squirtle!"

Red: "Charmander! I choose you!"
