Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Experience Boost

"Hmm?"

If throwing a slime doubles the experience, then if I wrap a slime around a goblin and swing that around, wouldn't the experience gained triple?

As soon as I thought of it, I acted.

I had the goblin wrap itself with the slime, equipped it, and ran off at a jog to find an enemy.

"There! Cooperate with my experiment, dammit!"

I used my original weapon—the GobSlime Club—to bash a goblin in a narrow passageway, turning it into smoke instantly. I checked my status.

"Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes!!"

No way. It really tripled the experience!

Normally a goblin gives 6 experience, but the goblin I just defeated gave me 18.

I see.

So Monster Tamer is a class that truly uses monsters. Isn't it the perfect class for me, someone who treats monsters like tools?

At first I thought it wasn't suited for me, but class compatibility isn't completely wrong after all.

Even the god who created dungeons has a good eye.

(Though he probably doesn't.)

---

I kept bashing goblins on the second floor with my GobSlime Club, defeating 24 in the afternoon alone and jumping up a whopping 5 levels.

Status

Name: Sakura Kikyo

SP: 7

Skills

Tamed Monsters

Goblin Lv10, Slime Lv10, Goblin Lv9

Experience to Next Level: 72

Amazing. Things are going incredibly well.

I leveled up so fast that I doubt anyone has ever raised their level this much on just the second floor in such a short time. Normally, to reach this level, you'd have to party up, split the experience, and take over a week.

Maybe my era has come.

By the way, you get one new skill when you reach level 10. After that, you get one at level 20, level 30, level 40, and so on.

The new skill I got, Monster Recovery, does exactly what it says: it recovers a monster's HP. For 1 MP, it restores 5 HP to a monster.

Now I can keep bashing monsters without letting them die.

That means I can keep leveling with a constant triple experience boost... Wait, that means!!

If I put two goblins together, wrap a slime around them, and use it as a GobGobSlime Club, wouldn't that give me quadruple experience!?

Hey, hey. Is quadruple experience even allowed? Isn't that blasphemy against the gods?

Yeah. If I can explore with quadruple experience, I don't mind blaspheming a little.

"Hey, goblins! Hug each other."

"Gyagya!"

"Gyach!"

"Alright, slime. Cover the goblins."

"Purupuru."

With this, the fearsome weapon that quadruples experience gain, the GobGobSlime Club, was complete.

When I tried holding it, thanks to my increased level, I could lift the GobGobSlime Club without any trouble. Swinging it as a weapon was also fine.

Since goblins are about 1 meter tall, it felt like swinging a gigantic club.

"Let's give it a quick try."

Even though it was getting late, I couldn't resist. I found a goblin and bashed it with the GobGobSlime Club.

The experience gained was quadruple as expected. I got 24.

"Is this, like, the strongest?"

The advantage of the GobGobSlime Club isn't just quadruple experience.

By covering the goblins with a slime, it also suppresses some of the unpleasant smell coming from them.

"It doesn't fully cover the goblins yet. That means if I get another slime, I should be able to block all of the nasty smell."

Then I could make a GobGobSlaSla Club consisting of two goblins and two slimes with the smell completely removed, and use it as a weapon that gives quintuple experience.

At my current level, there's no way I'd struggle against goblins.

Compared to walking around with smelly goblins following me, treating them as a GobGobSlaSla Club that suppresses the smell is far more efficient both for experience gain and for the smell.

"I'll catch a slime on the way back."

This is getting fun.

Before becoming an explorer, I thought leveling up was just a chore. I only meant to raise my stats a bit before entering the workforce to add some shine.

But now it's different. It's like a drug that gives a sense of accomplishment depending on how clever you are.

In fact, it makes sense to think that way because the results of my ingenuity are reflected in my stats, and those stats are reflected in my strength.

I can't stop grinning while looking at my status screen.

From tomorrow, I can explore with quintuple experience. At this rate, becoming an intermediate explorer won't be far off.

Maybe I can skip job hunting and just make a living as an explorer.

If you're a solo intermediate explorer, you can earn about as much as a regular office worker. And if you become an advanced explorer, an annual income of over 10 million yen is easy.

Plus, since I plan to keep going solo, that's a big deal.

Right now I'm so broke that even going on a date with a girl would be tough, but with an annual income of 10 million yen, I might get to interact with girls who are after money—a type I've never dated before.

"No, on second thought, I don't like gold diggers."

Why the hell would I date a girl who's only after my money?

Aim high. The ideal is to exceed 10 million yen a year and date a girl who isn't after my money, while having money myself.

For that...

"Aim to be an advanced explorer. First goal is level 20."

Intermediate explorer starts at level 20. I have to pass that point first. At my current pace, it shouldn't take long.

---

"42 goblin magic stones comes to 3,360 yen. You're workin' hard, kid. Keep at it without slackin' off, and someday it'll pay off."

"Ah, yes."

The old guy at the buyout counter praised me.

I'll probably break out of beginner explorer status soon, but this amount is so pitiful it brings tears to my eyes...

Can I really reach an annual income of 10 million yen at this rate?

No way. Today's earnings: 3,360 yen. If I explore every day without a break, my annual income would be... a little over 1.2 million?

"Huh? Wait, is my annual income actually way too low...?"
