An incredibly delicious dish—surely the Lapras would love it.
A moment later, by the ranch lake.
Each Lapras had a full bowl of Seafood Paella placed in front of them.
"Everyone, go ahead and eat! If it's not enough, I've got plenty more," Hayato Sora said while lifting his own bowl toward them.
"Lapras!"
Only after the Lapras leader gave a call did the others begin eating.
They buried their heads into the bowls, gulping down the food mouthful after mouthful, satisfied smiles appearing across their faces.
The Seafood Paella suited their tastes perfectly.
Beside Hayato Sora, Little Lapras was the first to finish its bowl. It paddled its flippers and slid over to him.
It rubbed its head against him, asking for another serving. Its watery eyes looked pitifully at him.
"You finished that fast! Hand it over."
Chuckling, Hayato Sora gave it two light pats and held out his hand.
The next moment, several empty bowls were pushed right in front of him.
A group of Lapras stared at him pleadingly.
"Hahaha~" Hayato Sora laughed. "Don't rush, don't rush. I made a lot—there's enough for everyone."
In the end, the huge pot of Seafood Paella was eaten completely clean—without a single grain of rice left.
Across the wide lake, Lapras were sprawled everywhere in all directions.
Enjoying the rare relaxing afternoon, they lay on their backs, exposing their soft bellies.
The little troublemaker Cinccino brought Flabébé, Noibat, and the other little Pokémon along, treating Little Lapras's belly like a trampoline as they bounced up and down on it, playing joyfully.
Little Lapras wobbled its round body, and every rise and fall made the Pokémon burst into giggles.
"Hrrraao!"
Nearby, Cyclizar circled around excitedly. It clearly wanted to join the fun.
But before it could move any closer, Hayato Sora grabbed it.
"Hey, don't mess around. With your size, you'd probably crush Little Lapras until it coughs up blood."
"Graaao!"
"Alright, alright, I'll pet you."
As Hayato Sora stroked Cyclizar affectionately, it immediately pounced on him and knocked him over.
After playing with the Pokémon for a while, Cyclizar went off to let the chickens out for some fresh air.
Mudsdale delivered the pottery clay it had finished preparing so Hayato Sora could sell it for money.
Meanwhile, Cinccino directed the Flabébé as they flitted through the flower fields collecting nectar.
After making a round of the ranch, Hayato Sora realized there was actually nothing for him to help with.
After thinking for a moment, he grabbed his fishing rod from the cabin and called Kangaskhan. The human and Pokémon headed to the seaside.
Looking into the distance, Hayato Sora walked to a spot where he could see fish shadows in the water. He set down a small folding stool and cast his line into the sea.
Kangaskhan lay beside him in boredom, staring at the blue sky before letting out a yawn.
A large hand rested gently on its head.
"It's fine if you take a nap," Hayato Sora said softly while stroking it. "I'll wake you when it's time to head back."
"Ghan~"
Rubbing its head affectionately against his palm, Kangaskhan closed its eyes and dozed off.
The sea and sky of Kalos were still as blue as ever—like two identical mirrors reflecting each other, making the scenery especially pleasing.
With such a beautiful view before him, Hayato Sora felt his mood relax.
Just then—
The fishing rod in his hand trembled slightly.
A sneak attack again…
Snapping back to attention, Hayato Sora yanked the rod upward.
With a silver arc flying through the air, a small blue-and-white figure hooked on the line was pulled out of the water.
A blue body.
White tentacles like braided strands.
Hanging upside down.
A common Pokémon in the seas around Kalos—
Inkay.
A great start!
Looks like that seafood paella at lunch wasn't wasted—today's catch would surely be plentiful.
Still dangling from the hook, Inkay struggled violently, twisting its body.
Hayato Sora grabbed the fishing line and gave a friendly smile, reaching out toward it.
"Easy, easy. I'll take the hook off right now."
Inkay actually stopped struggling and obediently allowed Hayato Sora to remove the hook.
But just as Hayato Sora reached out, intending to pat and squeeze it—
A light suddenly flashed from Inkay's head.
"Uh-oh!"
The thought had just appeared in his mind when—
Flash!
His entire field of vision turned white.
Watch out, you dummy.
Inkay gave a sly grin and seized the opportunity to dive straight back into the sea.
As the white light gradually faded, Hayato Sora realized his hand was completely empty.
"Crafty little rascal."
Shaking his head, he muttered to himself and cast his line again.
Most Inkay had this kind of personality—hard to get close to and extremely cunning.
But compared to them, their evolution, Malamar, was the real villain.
There was plenty of time today.
However, before long, Hayato Sora's expression darkened.
Looking at the Inkay hooked on his line again, he flicked its forehead with his finger.
Inkay whimpered and clutched its head with its tentacles.
"Don't come back again, got it?"
"Ink~"
Hayato Sora released it once more.
He baited the hook and cast the line again—but a bad feeling began forming in his heart.
Two minutes later, Hayato Sora grabbed the Inkay and hurled it straight back into the sea.
Only a string of frightened Inkay cries remained on the surface.
That should teach you to behave!
Ten minutes later, Hayato Sora woke Kangaskhan, packed up the fishing rod, and walked back toward the ranch with a dark expression.
Meanwhile, out on the sea—
An Inkay quietly poked half its head above the water.
That was fun!
Just after returning to the ranch, Hayato Sora learned some big news from Little Lapras.
"What? You're leaving tomorrow? Didn't you say you'd stay a few more days?"
"Lapras~"
(It's the leader's order.)
Hearing this, Hayato Sora looked toward the elderly Lapras in the herd.
It had been staring toward the ocean the whole time.
"Alright then… make sure you come visit us again next time."
Hayato Sora gently stroked Little Lapras, comforting it instead.
"I'll make dinner early tonight. I'll cook that coconut milk soup you've been craving."
The little Pokémon happily licked Hayato Sora's face.
Helpless, he pushed Little Lapras away and pointed toward Cinccino in the distance.
"Go say goodbye to everyone. I'll go start cooking."
Little Lapras's departure felt sudden, but there was nothing else to do except accept it.
On his way back to prepare dinner, Hayato Sora passed by Cyclizar.
It ran toward him excitedly, holding three eggs, proudly showing today's harvest.
Hayato Sora patted it, then gave a mischievous smile.
He suddenly decided to tease Cyclizar.
"Cyclizar, are those three eggs rooster eggs or hen eggs?"
Cyclizar lowered its head, examining them from left to right.
A huge question mark practically appeared next to its head.
"I'm going to cook dinner. Cyclizar, take your time figuring it out."
After saying that, Hayato Sora dashed away, humming a cheerful tune.
Cyclizar's completely confused expression was just too adorable.
Returning to the cabin, Hayato Sora opened the refrigerator and took a quick look inside.
Then he began preparing dinner—
A farewell meal for the Lapras herd.
As he cooked, he couldn't help thinking of the Chatot flock.
How were they doing now?
