Chapter 73 - The Bulldoze Domain & Building the Stable

The next day, after breakfast, Hayato Sora brought the Mudsdale to a patch of farmland that was ready to be cultivated.

The Mudsdale themselves had requested this.

After evolving, their strength had increased tremendously. Each of them could easily take care of a field on their own.

They also wanted to help Hayato Sora even more.

Hayato Sora was curious as well—he wanted to see how much stronger they had become after evolving.

As both a ranch owner and a Pokémon Trainer, he needed to understand his Pokémon thoroughly in order to take better care of them.

"Are you ready?"

"Brrr~"

The Mudsdale nodded vigorously, brimming with fighting spirit.

"Then let's begin. First, use Bulldoze on the field in front of you."

Hayato Sora wanted to see where their current limits were.

Hearing his command, the three Mudsdale lined up together.

They exchanged a glance with each other before exerting their strength simultaneously—they absolutely wouldn't disappoint Hayato Sora.

A vast amount of earth-yellow energy gathered in their forelegs.

As the Mudsdale repeatedly stomped the ground, Ground-type energy was injected into the earth beneath them.

Ripples of earthy light spread outward in circles, enveloping the entire field.

The previously barren soil received tremendous nourishment.

Under the Mudsdale's power, vegetation became far easier to grow.

The weeds in the field began growing like crazy.

In the blink of an eye, they had reached waist height—

And they showed no signs of stopping.

Seeing this, Hayato Sora hurriedly called out.

"Stop, stop for a moment!"

The Mudsdale looked over in confusion.

"Brrr?"

Hayato Sora pointed at the farmland.

"These weeds all need to be cleared away."

"Brrr!"

The Mudsdale immediately understood.

Their eyes lit up, and their powerful bodies suddenly took on a metallic iron-gray sheen. The edges of their muscles seemed sharper and tougher.

"Iron Defense… You've learned a new move."

Combined with the moves they had mastered as Mudbray—High Horsepower, Sandstorm, and Fissure—they were now fully capable of participating in Pokémon battles.

Under Hayato Sora's watchful gaze, the three Mudsdale charged toward the weeds from three different directions.

They were like three knightly lances, displaying overwhelming momentum.

Using their bodies like blades, they rapidly cut down the weeds, clearing several paths in no time.

The wildly growing weeds were soon completely mowed down, revealing dark red soil beneath.

After finishing, the Mudsdale even used Bulldoze once more, flipping over the roots of the weeds to clean the land thoroughly.

Watching everything unfold, Hayato Sora couldn't help but smile with pride.

It felt like watching his children grow up.

He still remembered when the Mudsdale first arrived at the ranch as Mudbray—completely clueless about farming.

But now?

They had become experienced farmers.

Honestly, they were even better at it than he was.

Having completed their task, the Mudsdale squeezed up beside Hayato Sora, raising their heads expectantly.

Despite their massive size, they still had the hearts of children.

Every word of praise from Hayato Sora was something they would remember for a long time.

Hayato Sora praised them one by one and vigorously rubbed their large heads.

Then he climbed onto the back of the eldest Mudsdale and began heading back.

At that moment, a thought suddenly crossed his mind.

Maybe he should prepare little red flower stickers, like in a kindergarten.

Whenever a Pokémon did something well, they could earn a little red flower.

After collecting enough of them, they could make a wish, and Hayato Sora would try his best to fulfill it.

Thinking about it…

His ranch wasn't that different from a kindergarten anyway.

Doing this might also motivate the Pokémon even more.

But that could wait a few days.

He still had important work today.

For example—

Expanding the Mudbray shed.

After evolving, the Mudsdale stood 2.5 meters tall and weighed over one ton.

The old Mudbray shed had become far too cramped.

It needed to be expanded.

[Mudbray Shed → Stable]

Cost:

10,000 PokéDollars

100 Wood

5 Iron Ingots

Description:

A building designed specifically for raising horses. It provides more spacious areas and improved facilities, offering better care for Pokémon.

"10,000 PokéDollars… that's acceptable."

Hayato Sora nodded and pressed the Build button, replacing the Mudbray shed on the spot.

Dismantling the old building returned half of the materials, which saved him some resources.

Spending 10,000 all at once meant the upgrade for the ranch house would have to be postponed.

Fortunately, given his current income rate, he could save up that amount again in about a week—with extra money left over.

Under the mysterious power of his system, the stable was completed very quickly.

But Hayato Sora's work wasn't done yet.

He still needed to expand the mud pit for the Mudsdale.

This was a large project and took the entire afternoon.

By the time everything was finished, the day had quietly passed.

Standing nearby, watching the Mudsdale happily rolling around in the mud pit, Hayato Sora felt much less tired.

As long as the Pokémon liked it, the whole afternoon of hard work was worth it.

"Kangaskhan, could you take the tools back to the house?"

Hayato Sora removed his gloves, locked the tools into the toolbox, and handed it over.

"Kanga!"

Kangaskhan accepted the toolbox and agreed.

Hayato Sora waved toward the mud pit.

"One of you come with me. We're going to deliver something."

"Brrr~" ×3

All three Mudsdale neighed at once.

"Then the eldest will come."

Hayato Sora climbed onto its back.

Mudsdale's back was extremely wide, and its steps were remarkably steady.

Even across rough terrain, it felt like riding on flat ground—Hayato Sora didn't feel the slightest bump.

Soon they arrived at the main road of Route 12.

Gario was already waiting there, just as they had arranged in yesterday's message.

Yesterday's price for the Tulip Nectar—2,400 PokéDollars—had only been an estimate.

"Hayato Sora… is this Mudsdale your Pokémon?"

Gario walked around it curiously before asking.

Mudsdale were still quite rare in the Kalos Region.

Hayato Sora stroked the Mudsdale's slightly rough mane.

"It's the Mudbray from before. It just evolved last night."

"You really have a talent for being a ranch owner. I didn't expect you to help a Mudbray evolve so quickly."

As he spoke, Gario took out 600 PokéDollars.

"This is the price difference from yesterday. The Tulip Nectar is very popular in Lumiose City."

"1,000 PokéDollars per bottle?!"

Hayato Sora was stunned.

After discussing the details for a while, Hayato Sora understood the situation and agreed that the price was reasonable.

In the end, he exchanged today's three bottles of nectar for 3,600 PokéDollars.

Just as Hayato Sora was about to leave, Gario stopped him.

"Hayato Sora… do you sell the high-quality soil produced by Mudsdale?"

Hayato Sora looked puzzled.

His ranch actually had plenty of it—he had even been worrying about how to deal with it.

"You probably don't know," Gario explained.

"Mudsdale can mix their saliva with soil to create a special kind of clay. It's premium pottery clay used for ceramics."

"It sells for 2,000 PokéDollars per ton."

"...!"

Hayato Sora was shocked once again.

However, he didn't agree immediately.

He planned to go back and ask the Mudsdale first.

If producing this pottery clay harmed their bodies in any way, he would rather not earn the money at all.
