Chapter 75 - The bond that refused to break

Nancy felt it instantly.

A pulse.

Not from the fracture.

From herself.

Silver light erupted beneath her skin, intertwining with the golden Alpha energy already burning through her veins.

Kai felt it too.

His eyes widened as the cracks across his chest suddenly stopped spreading.

For one second—

everything became still.

Then the bond exploded outward.

A shockwave tore across the clearing hard enough to knock Veil creatures backward. Wolves staggered as silver-gold energy surged through the forest like living fire.

The Veil screamed.

Not angry this time.

Terrified.

The First Alpha stared at Nancy with sudden realization.

Impossible…

Nancy's breathing became uneven.

"What's happening to me?"

Nyra answered immediately.

The bond is stabilizing itself.

"That's supposed to happen?!"

No.

Great.

Kai pushed himself up slightly despite the pain.

"Nancy…"

She looked at him—

and froze.

The silver corruption beneath his skin was retreating.

Slowly.

The bond wasn't feeding the Veil anymore.

It was fighting back.

The Veil noticed too.

Its massive form twisted violently inside the fracture.

STOP HER.

Every creature in the forest turned toward Nancy instantly.

Leo, still in wolf form, snarled viciously and moved in front of her without hesitation. Other wolves followed immediately.

A wall.

The pack protecting its Alpha.

Nancy felt the connection between all of them stronger than ever now.

Not control.

Trust.

Choice.

And somehow—

the bond was amplifying it.

The First Alpha stepped closer to her carefully now.

For the first time, the ancient wolf looked uncertain.

You were never meant to survive the connection.

Nancy laughed weakly.

"Yeah, I'm getting that impression."

Another pulse surged through her body.

This one hurt.

Nancy doubled over sharply as silver-gold light burst from her chest.

Memories slammed into her mind—

Every Alpha before her.

Every pack bond.

Every person who ever chose connection over fear.

She understood now.

The Veil wasn't the only ancient force watching humanity.

The Alpha bond itself was older than the packs.

Created for balance.

For protection against things exactly like the Veil.

And Nancy—

somehow—

had awakened it fully.

Her eyes snapped open.

They glowed silver and gold together now.

The Veil recoiled violently.

WHAT ARE YOU?

Nancy slowly stood.

The fear was still there.

But beneath it—

something steadier now.

Purpose.

"You said all worlds end alone," she said quietly.

The forest trembled around her.

"But you were wrong."

The pack bond ignited across the clearing instantly.

Every wolf's eyes flashed gold.

The Veil creatures hesitated.

Because now they could feel it too—

Thousands of separate hearts.

Connected willingly.

The one thing the Veil could never truly consume.

The First Alpha bowed his head slightly toward Nancy.

Not as submission.

Recognition.

The Guardian has awakened.

And somewhere deep inside the fracture—

for the first time since the beginning of existence—

the Veil began to fear losing.
