Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Demon Slave and the Shadow Auction

The golden rays of dawn spread across the sprawling capital of the Aurelion Empire, illuminating its towering walls and floating watchtowers. Despite the calm beauty of the morning, an undercurrent of tension pulsed through the city.

War was coming.

Dimensional rifts appeared more frequently, and whispers of unrest traveled through noble courts and shadowed alleys alike. But beneath the grandeur of the empire lay another world—one ruled not by law, but by secrecy.

A world Lucian Voidheart was about to enter.

An Invitation from the Shadows

Lucian stood by the academy gates, adjusting the dark cloak that concealed his identity. His sharp features were partially hidden beneath a hood, giving him an air of mystery.

Beside him stood his clone, identical in appearance but radiating a faint aura of darkness.

"Are you certain this is wise?" the clone asked calmly.

Lucian smirked. "Knowledge, resources, and influence rarely come through honest means. If we want to build an empire, we must learn how the world truly works."

A silver shimmer appeared beside him as Aeloria Moonshadow stepped forward.

Her moonlit hair was hidden beneath a veil, her elegant figure cloaked in shadow.

"The invitation was genuine," she said. "But the Shadow Auction is not a place for the naive. Kings, crime lords, nobles, and even emissaries from other races gather there. Betrayal is common, and mercy is nonexistent."

Lucian's eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Perfect."

She studied him carefully. "Why risk yourself?"

"Because power favors the bold," he replied. "And tonight, we may acquire something invaluable."

Aeloria hesitated before nodding. "Very well. I will accompany you—but remain cautious."

With that, they set off toward the darkest corners of the capital.

The Shadow Auction

Hidden beneath the city's underbelly lay a colossal subterranean hall carved from black crystal. Floating lanterns bathed the chamber in dim violet light, and ancient runes shimmered along the walls, suppressing magical outbursts.

A massive obsidian stage stood at the center.

Masked figures filled the seats—dwarven merchants, hooded nobles, beastkin warriors, demon emissaries, and even robed individuals whose aura hinted at origins beyond this world.

Lucian's eyes narrowed.

"So many powerful factions…"

Aeloria leaned closer and whispered, "Stay alert. Some of them are not native to this realm."

The trio took their seats in a secluded balcony.

Moments later, a tall figure stepped onto the stage. His face was hidden behind a golden mask.

"Welcome, esteemed guests," the auctioneer announced. "Tonight, we present treasures beyond imagination—from ancient relics to living weapons."

A murmur of anticipation spread through the crowd.

Treasures of Desire

The auction began.

"Lot One: A Dwarven Runeblade—capable of cleaving enchanted armor!"

"Lot Two: A vial of Dragon's Blood—enhances cultivation and vitality!"

"Lot Three: A fragment of a fallen star—imbued with cosmic energy!"

Bidding wars erupted across the hall, gold and mana crystals exchanging hands at astonishing prices.

Lucian observed silently, his mind calculating every possibility.

But then—

The atmosphere shifted.

The auctioneer's voice dropped to a theatrical whisper.

"And now… our final item."

The curtains parted.

Chains clinked.

Gasps echoed throughout the hall.

The Demon Slave

A young woman was led onto the stage.

Her long obsidian hair cascaded like a waterfall of night, and two delicate crimson horns curved gracefully from her forehead. Her golden eyes shimmered with fury and sorrow, while black markings adorned her pale skin like living flames.

Dark, tattered wings rested behind her, bound by enchanted chains.

"She is a pure-blood demon," the auctioneer proclaimed. "A descendant of the Infernal Nobility. Captured beyond the Crimson Rift."

A wave of astonishment swept through the crowd.

"Impossible!"

"A noble demon?!"

"She could become a terrifying weapon!"

The demon girl glared defiantly at the audience, her chains rattling as she struggled.

"I will never serve you," she spat.

Her voice was like velvet laced with fire.

Lucian's heart stirred.

Aeloria frowned. "This is dangerous. A demon noble will attract countless enemies."

Lucian's gaze remained fixed on the girl.

"Yes," he replied softly. "But she will also attract power."

The system flickered before his eyes.

A War of Bids

The auctioneer raised his hammer.

"The bidding begins at one hundred thousand mana crystals!"

"Two hundred thousand!" shouted a noble.

"Three hundred thousand!" roared a beastkin warlord.

"Five hundred thousand," said a masked figure calmly.

The price soared higher with every breath.

Aeloria's eyes widened. "Lucian, this is madness!"

But Lucian remained unfazed.

"Eight hundred thousand," he announced.

The hall fell silent.

A sinister voice echoed from the shadows.

"One million."

A figure cloaked in darkness rose—a demonic envoy from another realm.

Lucian's lips curved into a confident smile.

"Two million."

Gasps erupted throughout the hall.

The envoy hesitated.

No one dared to continue.

The auctioneer slammed his hammer.

"Sold! To the esteemed guest in the obsidian balcony!"

A New Beginning

Moments later, Selene Nightveil was brought before Lucian. Her golden eyes blazed with fury.

"Human," she hissed. "Do you think chains can bind me?"

Lucian met her gaze calmly.

"I did not purchase you for servitude," he said. "I offer you a choice."

Her expression flickered with surprise.

"A choice?"

"Yes," he replied. "Serve me as an ally, and I will grant you freedom—and power beyond imagination."

For the first time, uncertainty crossed her face.

"You would free a demon noble?"

Lucian smiled faintly.

"I intend to rule worlds. Having a queen of the abyss at my side seems fitting."

The chains shattered as he activated the contract transfer.

A radiant sigil formed between them.

Lucian looked toward the distant horizon, his eyes filled with ambition.

"This is only the beginning."
