Chapter 602 - When Breakfast Ends

Eirwen set the watering cup beside the garden path on the fifth morning, letting the child pass her before stepping between the root beds.

Hajin followed as far as the low seat near the entrance, finding the air warmer beneath the leaves than it had been along the shaded passage.

The girl held her hands close to her skirt while the nearest filaments brightened, their green light running slowly beneath a leaf she had barely approached.

"I didn't touch it."

"It feels the warmth near it," Eirwen said, staying beside the path instead of bringing the plant toward her.

The child moved her hand farther away, watching the light soften before returning it to the space above the leaf.

Hajin leaned back against his cushion while she compared the two distances, keeping his recovering arm where an unexpected movement would not drag it off the seat.

"Does it know it's me?"

"It knows something warm is close."

"It did that for you too?"
