King Atheron looked up from the documents before him, then studied the battered trio standing inside the council chamber.
"Welcome back," he said as his heavy gaze moved from the Captain toward Helen and Hajin.
"The Crown recognizes your work, your injuries, and the lives spent keeping this kingdom safe."
The Captain remained inside a formal bow while Helen followed with her good arm held beside the sling.
Hajin bowed one heartbeat later, hiding how much his exhausted body wanted the nearest chair.
"Sit before duty turns recovery into another casualty," the King said while one hand indicated three high-backed seats.
Helen claimed a chair at once, lowering herself with relief she made no effort to hide.
Hajin followed while the Captain remained standing before the long council table with his journal open.
Older men and women in expensive formal clothing watched from both sides of the King.
