" Do you know why they created the circus Vex?"
A middle aged man with dark circles under his eyes said as he passed down a jester's hat to a boy next to him. Hesitantly, the frail-looking boy looked at his father's dark hollow eyes before taking it.
"N-no father."
A cold breeze passed before them, fluttering the man's long black hair. He chuckled a little, turning to look at the grand glowing circus entrance.
" To distract them from the truth."
Smiling, the over-sized hat toppled over, jingling as it covered Vex's eyes. He pushed it up , then looked at the circus entrance, the colours seemed to draw him in.
" The..tr-truth ?W-what truth ?"
Bending down, the man held the Vex's hands, his cold grip tightening as he stared into those innocent brown eyes.
" The royals are bad people, they smile too much...they trick them and do bad things in secret..."
"Bad ?L-like..t-the.. walker ?"
" Yes yes like the walkers. The royals are the real monsters and so is the church. They teach us to worship the monsters...but, the gods, they're real, and they live up in the sky beyond the seas."
Vex gulped as gazed into his father's cold hollow eyes . He watched as a child laughed as her father lifted her onto his shoulders. A couple lingered near the entrance, smiling over shared sweets.No one looked afraid.
"Father? W-why d-don't you tell..ev-everyone ?"
Standing up, the man smiled as he held Vex's hand. They continued walking towards the circus chuckling before he finally answered.
" They laughed son. But sometimes, it is easier to convince people they are fools than it is to convince them that they're being fooled. There still so many things you don't understand, but you will...someday."
The laughter and music intensified as they drew closer, as a loud shout shot in the sky.
"WELCOME TO THE CIRCUS ! !"
