Chapter 302 - Musou no Hitotachi

Chapter 302: Musou no Hitotachi

Whether it was the sheer, unexplainable luck of a protagonist's aura at work or simply a miracle, Heiji and Conan managed to survive the impossible. The two detectives had spent only a few breathless moments observing the chaotic rhythm of the lightning strikes before making their move. They charged straight ahead into the tempest. They darted left, ducked right, and scrambled over debris. Miraculously, not a single bolt of the violent purple electricity grazed their skin.

As they pushed deeper into the danger zone, a strange pattern emerged. The devastating electrical bombardment was heavily concentrated on the outer perimeter. The closer they sprinted toward the towering gates of the Takahashi Residence, the sparser the strikes became. By the time they pressed their backs against the cold stone of the Takahashi family's outer wall, the sky directly above them was eerily quiet. No more lightning crashed down in their immediate vicinity. It was as though the entire storm had been artificially constructed with a single, terrifying purpose: to form an impenetrable cage, keeping outsiders away from the Takahashi estate.

Heiji exhaled a long, ragged breath, sliding down the wall slightly. Conan wiped a layer of cold sweat from his brow. They had successfully infiltrated the target zone, but the journey had drained them. Facing down a barrage of lethal, heaven-sent artillery had kept their adrenaline spiking to dangerous levels. Their minds had been pulled taut like piano wire, neither daring to blink lest a stray bolt turn them to ash.

Now, shielded by the eye of the storm, their racing heartbeats finally began to slow. After a brief moment to catch their breath, the two detectives turned their sharp gazes toward the sprawling Takahashi manor.

High above the sprawling estate, Raiden Ei cast an imperceptible glance downward. Her glowing violet eyes tracked the two tiny figures huddled by the outer wall. A faint flicker of surprise crossed her stoic features. To think mere mortals could bypass a divine lightning blockade and reach the epicenter unscathed was unusual, though not entirely unmatched. Similar anomalies had occurred back in Inazuma.

Ultimately, she dismissed their presence. No mortal force could possibly halt the judgment she was about to deliver. Their intrusion as outsiders was entirely irrelevant to the grand scale of her mission. She only hoped their bizarre streak of luck would hold out just a little longer, lest they be reduced to cinders in the impending crossfire.

Dismissing the two detectives from her mind, Ei narrowed her focus entirely on the sprawling manor below. She slowly closed her eyes. The chaotic howling of the wind and the crackling of ozone faded into a distant hum as she adjusted her breathing. She sank into an ethereal, meditative stillness, aligning her spirit with the raw elemental energy of the world. When her eyelids snapped open a second later, terrifying arcs of pure electro energy danced across her irises. She was ready.

Ei began to draw upon her divine authority. The ancient, terrifying power within her core surged upward like a violent, turbulent ocean. A brilliant, ethereal purple light began to radiate from her skin, expanding outward to envelop her form in a crackling, majestic halo of electro energy. Her slender fingers tightened around the ornate hilt of her tachi. The razor-sharp edge of the blade hissed, sparking with concentrated, blinding lightning that threatened to shatter the very air around it. The sheer density of the gathered energy was suffocating.

High above, the unnatural storm responded to its master's call. The churning black clouds descended, hanging so low they seemed to scrape the rooftops. The atmospheric pressure skyrocketed, pressing down on the estate with a crushing weight that made drawing breath a grueling chore. Within the pitch-black canopy, the frequency of the lightning intensified. Massive, serpentine arcs of electricity wove through the darkness like roaring silver dragons. Explosive flashes of blinding white and violet tore through the cloud layer, casting stark, terrifying shadows across the earth below.

Down in the courtyards and grand halls of the Takahashi Residence, the servants and armed bodyguards finally registered the sheer wrongness of their environment. The initial assumption of a sudden summer squall evaporated. No natural weather pattern carried such a heavy, suffocating aura of doom. The oppressive, static-charged atmosphere caused the hairs on their arms to stand on end. Panic began to ripple through the ranks of the security personnel. The head butler, a stern man with graying hair, barked orders to maintain discipline. Once the immediate chaos was quelled, he spun on his heel and rushed toward the inner sanctum to alert the master of the house.

The Head of the Takahashi Family sat behind his heavy mahogany desk, his wrinkled face twisting into a scowl of deep displeasure. When the butler first burst in, babbling about the storm, the old patriarch had scoffed. He assumed his staff was simply losing their nerve over a bit of thunder, making a mountain out of a molehill.

Grumbling, he pushed himself up from his leather chair and followed the frantic servant out onto the grand balcony. The moment he stepped through the sliding glass doors, the words of reprimand died in his throat. The sky was an apocalyptic shade of bruised purple. Deafening thunderclaps shook the foundation of the manor, and the manicured gardens below were already scorched and splintered by stray strikes. This was no mere storm. It was a localized natural disaster.

He immediately turned, opening his mouth to bark defensive orders to his subordinate. Instead, he found the butler frozen in place. The servant's face was drained of all color, his jaw hanging slack in absolute terror. With a trembling finger, the man pointed toward the highest peak of the estate's traditional roofing.

Leaning heavily on his ornate cane, the Head of the Takahashi Family followed the man's gaze upward. His breath hitched. Standing atop the curved tiles of the highest roof was a lone woman. She wore an elegant, flowing purple kimono that whipped violently in the gale. A halo of crackling violet electricity surrounded her entirely, illuminating her long, braided hair as it fluttered wildly in the storm. In her hands, she held a long, deadly tachi that pulsed with blinding light.

The patriarch's mind raced. The apocalyptic weather, the targeted lightning strikes, the suffocating pressure—it was all emanating directly from her. He had no logical explanation for how a single human could command the heavens, but his ruthless business instincts kicked in. If this phenomenon was man-made, it could be bought, negotiated with, or killed. He narrowed his eyes, his grip tightening on his cane as he prepared to shout a demand.

But before a single syllable could leave his lips, the woman shifted her gaze downward. Their eyes met.

His thoughts ground to a violent halt. The sheer, crushing weight of her cold, indifferent stare slammed into him like a physical blow. His knuckles turned white around the golden head of his cane as a primal, instinctual terror seized his heart. It took several agonizing seconds for him to force air back into his lungs. When he finally regained a fraction of his composure, a hot flush of shame and intense annoyance burned his cheeks. To think he, the undisputed master of the Takahashi empire, had been paralyzed by a mere look from a woman.

From her divine vantage point, Ei stared down at the frail, angry old man gripping his cane. Her target had finally revealed himself. Her glowing eyes remained utterly devoid of warmth, mercy, or malice. To her, he was simply an obstacle to eternity, a weed to be excised. Having confirmed his exact coordinates, she casually dismissed him from her sight. Her absolute focus returned to the lethal weapon resting in her grasp.

She adjusted her grip on the hilt. The familiar weight and texture of the weapon grounded her, bridging the gap between her physical form and the divine authority she wielded. They were one entity. Her gaze hardened into unbreakable resolve. The torrential flood of electro energy circulating through her veins was forcefully channeled down her arms and poured directly into the steel. As the pure divine power flooded the metal, the tachi erupted into a dazzling, blinding violet brilliance. The blade hummed and vibrated, seemingly coming alive with the wrath of a god.

Ei drew in a slow, measured breath. With fluid, terrifying elegance, she raised the glowing sword high above her head. Every subtle shift of her muscles, every fold of her kimono, radiated an aura of absolute, inescapable destruction. For a fraction of a second, the entire world seemed to hold its breath. The roaring thunder fell dead silent.

Then, with a sudden, explosive exertion of force, she swung the blade down in a devastating vertical arc, aiming directly at the balcony where the Head of the Takahashi Family stood.

'Musou no Hitotachi.'

A colossal crescent of pure, concentrated purple lightning erupted from the edge of the blade. It sheared through the dark sky, descending upon the manor with a momentum capable of cleaving heaven and earth in twain. The massive energy wave took the form of a roaring, jagged dragon of electricity, plunging straight toward the paralyzed patriarch. The sheer velocity of the strike tore the very fabric of the air apart, leaving a vacuum in its wake that produced a deafening, world-shattering roar as divine judgment finally fell.
