Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Sovereign’s Court

The Academy didn't look like an Academy anymore. The Ghost-Wing had expanded, its black vines of void-energy wrapping around the golden towers of the elite, turning the sky into a permanent shade of twilight.

Akash sat on a stone chair in the center of the Ghost-Wing's main hall. He wasn't breathing; he was absorbing the mana of the world itself.

[SYSTEM: LEVELING STABILIZED — LEVEL 5 SPIRIT REFINER]

[NEW ABILITY: VOID PERCEPTION (1000m RADIUS)]

[FACTION STATUS: GHOST-WING ASCENDANT]

Brutus walked in, his heavy footsteps echoing. He wasn't wearing rags anymore; he was clad in obsidian armor forged from the Arena's wreckage. Behind him were ten other outcasts, all of them now Level 4, their eyes glowing with a cold, disciplined fire.

"My Lord," Brutus knelt. "The King has sent his third 'peace offering' this morning. Ten chests of High-Grade Spirit Stones and the map to the Hidden Valley of Spirits."

Akash opened his eyes. The violet glow was gone, replaced by a deep, bottomless black. "He's trying to buy time, Brutus. He thinks if he feeds the monster, it won't eat his palace."

"Should we send them back?" Brutus asked, his hand tightening on his axe.

"No," Akash stood up. "Keep the stones. We need to fund the reconstruction. But the map... the map is what I've been waiting for."

[SYSTEM: NEW QUEST DETECTED — THE SILENT EMPYREAN]

[OBJECTIVE: LOCATE THE ANCIENT CORE IN THE SPIRIT VALLEY]

[DANGER LEVEL: S-RANK]

Suddenly, the doors burst open. Meera rushed in, her face pale. "Akash! You need to see this. The sky at the border... it's changing color."

Akash walked to the balcony. In the far distance, beyond the borders of Valeria, the sky was a sickly, neon green. A massive floating fortress, three times the size of the Academy, was slowly drifting toward them.

"The Veridian Empire," Master Yun whispered, appearing from the shadows. "They heard about the fall of Prince Jaxon. They've come to 'stabilize' the region. In other words, they've come to kill the boy who broke the status quo."

Akash looked at the massive fortress in the sky. A cold smile played on his lips.

"Stabilize?" Akash gripped the hilt of his katana. "They're ten thousand years too late for that. Tell the King to stay in his room. I'll handle the neighbors."

[ALERT: THE WORLD-GOVERNORS ARE MONITORING YOUR ACTIONS]

[THREAT LEVEL: WORLD-ENDER]

Akash stepped off the balcony, not falling, but walking on the air itself as if invisible stairs were supporting him.

"Brutus, Meera, Master... get ready," Akash's voice echoed through the Ghost-Wing. "Valeria was just a warm-up. Now, we show the Upper Realms what happens when a Sovereign stops playing nice."The massive fortress, known as the Emerald Bastion, cast a shadow that swallowed the entire Academy city. From its underside, thousands of glowing green runes began to hum, charging a weapon that could wipe out a mountain in seconds.

"Host identified," a cold, robotic voice boomed from the fortress, amplified by high-tier magic. "Target Name: Akash. Status: Illegal Sovereign. Decree: Immediate Neutralization."

[SYSTEM: THREAT LEVEL — EXTREME]

[ESTIMATED ENEMY LEVEL: SAINT-RANK LEVEL 15 COMMANDERS]

Akash continued to walk through the empty air, each step creating a ripple of violet energy. He was five hundred feet above the ground now, standing alone against a war machine the size of a city.

"Neutralize me?" Akash's voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the hum of the fortress like a knife. "You should have stayed in your own empire. Now, you're just providing me with more scrap metal."

A hatch opened on the side of the fortress, and a man in glowing green jade armor flew out. He was holding a spear made of pure wind energy.

"I am General Kael of the Veridian Empire," the man sneered, his Level 15 aura flaring. "You've caused quite a mess in this little kingdom, boy. But the adults are here now. Drop your sword and—"

SWISH.

Akash didn't wait for him to finish. In a blur of black and violet, he vanished and reappeared directly in front of the General.

[SKILL ACTIVATED: VOID-KING'S JUDGMENT — FIRST STRIKE]

Akash didn't even use his sword. He simply placed a hand on the General's jade chest-plate. A pulse of pure Void energy erupted from his palm.

"Adults?" Akash whispered. "I've been killing 'Adults' since I was in the pits of the lower world."

The General's eyes bulged. His expensive, high-tier armor didn't just break—it turned into black liquid and evaporated. Kael was sent screaming back toward his fortress, his aura shattered in a single touch.

[SYSTEM: LEVEL 15 COMMANDER DEFEATED]

[ABSORBING SPIRIT ENERGY... PROGRESS: 15%]

The fortress went silent for a second, then every single cannon on its side rotated toward Akash.

"FIRE!"

Thousands of beams of neon-green energy shot out at once. The sky turned into a blinding sea of fire. Below, Meera and Brutus watched with bated breath as the explosion covered the spot where Akash stood.

"He's gone..." a student from the golden district whispered, half-relieved.

But then, the green fire started to spin. It began to get sucked into a single point, like water going down a drain.

Akash stood there, his right hand raised, literally eating the energy beams with a black hole that had formed in his palm. His Level 5 Core was glowing so bright it could be seen through his clothes.

"Is that all your 'Empire' has?" Akash asked, his eyes burning with a dark hunger. "Because I'm still hungry."

[SYSTEM: VOID PERCEPTION REACHING MAXIMUM CAPACITY]

[NEW TECHNIQUE DETECTED: WORLD-EATER'S BITE] The Emerald Bastion's core let out a mechanical screech. It had never encountered a human who could digest pure Veridian energy. Inside the fortress, alarms were blaring red.

"Output increased to 200%!" a panicked officer inside the fortress screamed. "He's absorbing our main battery! We're losing power!"

Akash's eyes snapped open, now completely consumed by a swirling violet void. The "World-Eater's Bite" in his palm had grown from a small spark to a roaring sphere of darkness.

"My turn," Akash whispered.

[SKILL ACTIVATED: WORLD-EATER'S BITE — RELEASE]

He didn't throw the sphere. He crushed it.

A shockwave of negative energy erupted from his hand, turning the green sky into a bruised purple. The beams of energy that were hitting him suddenly reversed their flow, turning into black lightning that shot back into the fortress's own cannons.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The left side of the Emerald Bastion exploded in a chain reaction of emerald fire and black smoke. The massive city-sized fortress tilted, its gravity-engines failing.

[SYSTEM: FORTRESS INTEGRITY — 40%]

[CRITICAL DAMAGE DETECTED: MAIN REACTOR EXPOSED]

"No! This is impossible!" A second figure erupted from the fortress—the Grand Marshal. He was Level 18, wielding a broadsword that pulsed with the life-force of a thousand spirits. "I will not let a Lower-World peasant destroy the pride of the Empire!"

The Marshal swung his blade, creating a rift in the sky that threatened to swallow Akash whole.

Akash didn't even flinch. He finally gripped the hilt of The Sovereign's Rebirth. He didn't unsheathe it fully—just three inches of steel were enough.

"Peasant?" Akash's voice dropped into that bone-chilling dual-tone. "You call me a peasant while you hide behind walls of stolen jade. I am the Void that your ancestors prayed to for mercy."

[SKILL ACTIVATED: SOVEREIGN'S EXECUTION — REACH OF THE BEYOND]

A single horizontal line of violet light appeared across the sky. It looked thin, almost delicate. But as it passed through the Grand Marshal and the entire Emerald Bastion behind him, time seemed to stop.

CRACK.

The Grand Marshal's broadsword snapped like a dry twig. A moment later, a clean, glowing line appeared across the middle of the massive floating fortress.

With a sound like the world breaking in half, the Emerald Bastion split into two. The pride of the Veridian Empire began to fall from the sky, a rain of burning jade and screaming soldiers.

[SYSTEM: EMERALD BASTION DESTROYED]

[LEVEL UP: LEVEL 6 SPIRIT REFINER — MID STAGE]

[NEW STATUS: THE EMPIRE'S NIGHTMARE]

Akash stood in the middle of the falling debris, his hair streak now glowing with a blinding brilliance. He looked down at the Academy city below, where every student—from the highest elite to the lowest outcast—was staring up in absolute silence.

He wasn't just a rebel anymore. He had just declared war on an Empire.

"Brutus," Akash's voice reached the ground through the system link. "Start the harvest. There's a lot of high-grade scrap metal falling from the sky. We're going to need it for what's coming next."
