Chapter 155 - 155: I Want Muzan's Hearts!

Muzan Kibutsuji had lived since the Heian period. He was the progenitor of all demons and possessed power that stood above every other demon.

He could freely change his appearance, gender, scent, and every other feature. Compared to him, Ivan's transformation looked a little lacking.

At the very least, Ivan couldn't change his scent. He could only alter his looks and gender.

On top of that, Muzan could turn humans into demons by spreading his blood. His blood contained a curse that let him control the thoughts and actions of any demon.

If a demon spoke any information about Muzan, the curse would corrode their entire body until they died.

He could even read the thoughts and memories of any demon he got close to.

He had complete control over demons and could freely decide their life and death.

He was also the first demon to break past the limits. Even if his head was cut off with a Nichirin sword, he wouldn't die. Only sunlight could kill him. And he had five brains and seven hearts.

Ivan couldn't imagine how his body managed to fit all those organs. That was definitely something worth "studying" (borrowing).

Beyond all that...

Muzan's insane regeneration that let him reform from minced meat and his freakish ability to change his body were both things Ivan coveted.

They were the most valuable things in this world.

Too bad the guy was way too cautious.

Finding him wouldn't be easy. The best way was to use Tanjiro and Nezuko as bait to draw him out.

Muzan had turned the Kamado family into test subjects because he still couldn't find the Blue Spider Lily. He wanted to see if he could create a demon that could withstand sunlight.

But when he saw everyone die because they couldn't handle his blood, he left. He never expected Nezuko to survive thanks to her hatred for him and that the demon blood inside her would change in some way.

"Muzan's power is beyond what you can imagine. As the progenitor of demons, he has the Twelve Kizuki, split into Upper and Lower Ranks. The gap between them is massive, even bigger than the gap between you and me. If you really plan to go after Muzan, you should prepare yourself first.

Take them to the foot of Mount Sagiri and find an old man named Sakonji Urokodaki. Tell him Giyu Tomioka sent you."

Even though Giyu wasn't much of a talker, he still said quite a bit to Ivan.

Since the man showed no demon traits and had zero respect for Muzan, he could probably rule out the possibility that he was a demon.

At least he had never heard of any demon who dared disrespect Muzan.

Let alone call him by name. They had tested it before. The moment a demon spoke Muzan's name, they would corrode into a puddle of pus.

"Thanks. I owe you one. If you run into trouble you can't handle, come find me."

Ivan wasn't some crazy sadist. He hadn't let power go to his head. He just wanted to live without restrictions. He wasn't actually turning into Homelander.

"Don't use your power for evil. Otherwise, even if it costs my life, I'll kill you."

After saying that, Giyu turned and left.

"This guy really doesn't know how to talk."

...

Beside a wooden cabin, white snow drifted in the wind, carrying a biting chill that slipped down Tanjiro's collar.

He knelt in front of his family's graves, eyes tightly closed, hands pressed together. No one knew what he was thinking, whether he was praying, swearing revenge, or promising to take care of Nezuko. Whatever was in his heart, no one else could know.

Ivan leaned against a tree trunk and didn't disturb him.

"Let's go." Tanjiro took Nezuko's hand and nodded at Ivan. The tears in his eyes were gone, replaced by determination and responsibility.

He looked back reluctantly, like he wanted one last look at them. But he understood his old life was gone. No amount of longing could bring it back. He had to look forward. He carried the heavy burden of curing Nezuko and getting revenge. So he quickly took Nezuko and started running.

After Nezuko regained consciousness, she still recognized Tanjiro but hadn't regained her human self. Her intelligence and behavior had regressed to that of a toddler, and she couldn't speak normally.

Along the way, they stayed mostly silent. As they walked farther, the snow on the roadside gradually thinned out.

"Don't forget to get Nezuko a bamboo basket. Demons can't be exposed to sunlight." Ivan looked up at the sky. The thick clouds were thinning and sunlight was pouring through in golden pillars in the distance. It looked spectacular, but for demons it was deadly.

"There are a few old people over there. They should have extra bamboo baskets. Can you look after Nezuko for a bit? I'll be right back."

After spending this time together, Tanjiro had noticed that while Ivan looked a little cold, he was a very gentle person. It almost seemed like Ivan was Nezuko's real older brother.

"Go on, go on. Take your time," Ivan said impatiently, waving him off.

Not long after Tanjiro left, the clouds above Nezuko started to part. Nezuko instinctively hated sunlight. She dove into a nearby pile of grass, leaving only her butt sticking out.

"Come on, I'll make you a cave." Ivan pulled her out, then pressed his palm against the stone wall at the foot of the mountain. The next second, his five fingers turned into extremely sharp tentacles. In front of those blades, even the hardest stone was as soft as tofu. The tentacles slashed at incredible speed.

In an instant, a three-meter-long, two-meter-wide cave had been carved out.

Then he used telekinesis to clear out the broken stones and dirt, dumping them outside. Once it was done, Nezuko eagerly dove inside. Being in the dark made her feel incredibly comfortable.

Seeing that Nezuko loved the cave he had made, Ivan's mood improved a lot.

He opened his panel. [Hyper Sensitivity], [Supersonic Flight], and [Thunderstorm Weather] all showed as available for fusion. He was hesitating on which one to fuse first. After thinking it over, Ivan decided on Hyper Sensitivity for two reasons.

First, Hyper Sensitivity would help a lot with learning the breathing techniques later. Second, he wanted to try if he could learn Transparent World.

That ability was basically cheating. It let you see through an opponent's techniques and body structure, dodge attacks, and predict their next move. Ivan had to get his hands on a god-tier skill like that.

If he couldn't learn it, he could just parse and fuse it. That wasn't embarrassing. If his talent sucked, he had to accept it. Besides, how would he know if he didn't try?

Either way, Ivan was determined to get it.

Second, the stronger the skill, the longer the fusion took. And since he was in the Demon Slayer world without Compound V to help, the fusion time would be several times longer. The only solution Ivan could think of right now was to raise the fusion progress through familiarity.

This was basically a universal method that worked well for any talent ability.
