Chapter 2 - The Lioness Who Hates Me

Kai Ren stepped into the restricted training forest as if he owned every shadow within it. Black mist from his newly acquired Shadow Step still clung to his shoulders like loyal spirits, and his eyes glowed with faint purple threads of fate energy that only he could see. The three suns filtered through the dense canopy, casting golden beams across the moss-covered ground. The air was thick with the scent of smoke, blood, and wild magic.

He didn't have to wait long.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion shook the trees. A massive Flame Boar, easily twice the size of a normal horse, erupted into burning chunks of meat and charred hide. Flames licked the air where the beast had stood just moments ago.

In the center of the carnage stood a tall, athletic young woman with wild crimson hair tied in a high ponytail that swayed like fire itself. Sweat glistened on her exposed midriff and powerful, toned thighs. Her torn academy uniform barely contained her generous curves, the fabric ripped in several places from the sheer intensity of battle. In her hands, she wielded a pair of flaming axes that roared with living fire, making her look every bit like a war goddess who was furious with the entire world.

Lyra Voss — daughter of the Crimson Lion Duke. Legendary Bloodline: War God's Fury.

She flicked boiling blood off her axes with a sharp motion and locked eyes with Kai instantly. Her expression twisted into pure, unfiltered disdain.

You've got some fucking nerve, she spat, her voice dripping with venom that could melt steel. The pathetic Null who got humiliated in front of the entire academy dares show up in my training grounds? Are you stalking me now, trash?

Kai leaned casually against a thick tree trunk, arms crossed over his chest, and gave her a slow, shameless once-over. His gaze lingered just long enough to be provocative without being crude.

Stalking? Nah, he replied with a lazy, confident grin. Just following the most interesting scent in the forest. And damn… you smell like burning rage and expensive perfume. Dangerous combination. I like it.

Lyra's red eyes narrowed dangerously, the flames on her axes flaring brighter in response to her rising anger. She pointed one flaming axe straight at his face, the heat licking the air between them like a hungry beast.

Flirting with me? Really? She let out a sharp, mocking laugh that somehow still sounded charismatic and commanding, echoing through the trees. After your elven bitch of a fiancée burned your engagement contract like yesterday's garbage? After the whole academy laughed at your worthless Null ass? Pathetic. You're not even worth the dirt on my boots.

She stepped closer, radiating intense heat and raw killing intent that pressed against Kai like a physical force. The ground beneath her feet seemed to smolder slightly.

I hate weak men, she continued, her voice growing lower and more dangerous. I hate nobles who look down on me because I prefer axes over delicate tea parties and political games. And right now? Her lips curled into a sneer. I really hate pretty boys who think they can talk big after getting kicked out like a stray dog.

Kai didn't flinch. If anything, his smirk deepened, his purple eyes gleaming with quiet amusement and something far more dangerous. Inside, he could feel the Fateweaver System humming with approval. Her hatred wasn't just noise — it was pure, high-quality fuel for his growth.

Good, he said softly, his voice low and magnetic. Keep hating me. Your War God's Fury is loving every second of it. I can almost hear it roaring inside you, begging for a real challenge.

Lyra's cheeks flushed with a mix of anger and something she refused to name. The hell did you just say?

Before she could swing her axes, Kai activated Shadow Step. He vanished in a swirl of black mist and reappeared barely an inch away from her. He was taller than she had expected in that moment of proximity. His purple eyes stared straight into her fiery red ones with zero fear, zero hesitation.

Your bloodline is screaming right now, he murmured, his voice dropping even lower, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine. It wants a real fight. A real man. Not the spineless, arranged-marriage nobles your father keeps trying to sell you to like some trophy. That's why you're still standing here insulting me instead of chopping my head off.

Lyra's breath hitched audibly. She hated how right he sounded. For years she had crushed opponents in training, yet no one had ever spoken to her with such calm confidence after being publicly branded as trash. She shoved him hard in the chest with her palm, the impact solid but not followed by an axe strike.

Shut your mouth, she growled, though her voice now carried a slight tremble of unwanted excitement. You think you're special because some mysterious power woke up after your public disgrace? I don't follow losers. I don't follow anyone. If you want anything from me, you'll have to beat me into submission — and even then, I'll make your life a living hell every single day.

She spun her axes with arrogant flair, the flames roaring louder, and smirked. Impress me right now, Null. Or get the fuck out of my forest before I burn you alive and use your ashes as fertilizer for the next batch of Flame Boars.

Kai's smirk never wavered. Instead, he took one more step forward, closing the distance until the heat from her axes brushed against his skin.

Then let's make this simple, Lioness, he said, his tone challenging and velvet-smooth. You want me to impress you? Fine. But I don't fight like the weak nobles you're used to. I fight dirty. I fight smart. And right now, I'm very interested in seeing exactly how hot that famous War God's Fury can burn.

Lyra's eyes flashed with a dangerous mix of fury and intrigue. No one had ever dared push her buttons like this — especially not someone who had just been laughed out of the Awakening Ceremony.

Without warning, she swung one of her flaming axes in a wide, powerful arc. The blade screamed through the air, trailing fire like a comet.

Kai didn't block. He simply used Shadow Step again, melting into black mist and reappearing behind her in the blink of an eye. Before she could spin around, he leaned in close to her ear, his breath warm against her skin.

Too slow, he whispered. Your anger makes you strong… but it also makes you predictable.

Lyra roared in frustration and spun, bringing her second axe down in a devastating overhead strike. The ground cracked where the blade hit, sending dirt and flames exploding outward. Kai dodged at the last second, the heat singing the edge of his academy robe.

They danced like that for several intense minutes — Lyra attacking with raw power and ferocious speed, Kai evading with Shadow Step, taunting her with words and proximity. Each time he got close, he could feel her bloodline reacting, feeding on the tension, growing stronger from the genuine challenge he represented.

Finally, Lyra stopped, breathing heavily, sweat dripping down her neck and collarbone. Her chest rose and fell rapidly. The flames on her axes had dimmed slightly from exhaustion, but her eyes burned brighter than ever.

You… you're not fighting like a Null, she panted, wiping sweat from her brow with the back of her hand. What the hell are you?

Kai stopped a few meters away, breathing steady, that infuriatingly calm smirk still on his face. Silver streaks had begun to appear faintly in his black hair — the first visible sign of his class evolution.

I told you, he said quietly. I got the keys to the whole game. And right now, your bloodline is one of the most interesting keys I've found.

Lyra stared at him for a long, heavily charged moment. The forest seemed to hold its breath around them. Then she threw her head back and laughed — a sharp, arrogant, incredibly charismatic laugh that echoed through the trees like a battle cry.

You're insane. Absolutely fucking insane. She pointed one flaming axe at him again, but this time there was a dangerous glint of genuine excitement in her red eyes. Fine. I'll stick around… for now. Not because I like you. I hate you. But if that crazy power of yours can actually help me crush every arrogant noble who's ever looked down on me because I'm too rough or not ladylike enough, then I'll use you until you break. And when you finally do break… I'll be the one laughing loudest.

The system exploded with delight inside Kai's mind.

DING! Legendary Bloodline Connection Achieved! Class Evolution in progress… Shadow Sovereign → Fate Sovereign (Stage 1) New Passive Unlocked: Pride Resonance Fate Points: +4,200 First World Announcement Charge: 18%

A powerful, intoxicating surge of energy rushed through Kai's body. More silver streaks appeared in his black hair, glowing faintly, and his presence grew noticeably more magnetic and commanding.

Lyra felt it too. She shivered visibly, her grip tightening on her axes, but quickly masked the reaction behind another arrogant smirk.

Don't think this means I'm yours, pretty boy, she warned, stepping forward and jabbing a finger hard into his chest. Touch me without earning it and I'll remove your hands. Slowly.

Kai stepped even closer, their faces now mere inches apart. He could feel the heat radiating from her body and the rapid beat of her heart.

Earn it? He grinned, his eyes sparkling with pure challenge and dark amusement. Challenge accepted, Lioness.

Lyra shoved him back again with both hands, but this time she was smiling — a dangerous, hateful, breathtaking smile that promised both war and something far more intoxicating.

Try not to die too quickly, she said, her voice lower now, almost husky. I might start enjoying hating you.

The forest felt different now. Charged. Alive. Electric with possibilities and unspoken tension.

The proud, fiery Lioness had joined the game — not as a meek follower, but as a fierce queen who would make Kai fight tooth and nail for every inch of ground.

And deep down, Kai couldn't wait to earn every single one.
