For the first hour, the parley did not begin with the sharp trading of borders or resources. Instead, it began with the deceptive, fluid dance of casual conversation.
King Antares and Prince Tayron sat across from one another, navigating the initial pleasantries with the practiced ease of natural apex predators. As they spoke, Antares quietly analyzed the young man sitting opposite him. From what he gathered through their casual talks, Tayron was the same age as him—a youth thrust into a world of cutthroats and kings. He was the second-born son of the legendary Grand Admiral, Tristan the Red.
Tayron spoke of his lineage not with pride, but with a weary, sharp realism. His older brother, Tyreek, was a notorious whoring drunkard and a profligate who possessed absolutely zero interest in the intricate, bloody mechanics of the family business.
Tyreek's abandonment of his duties left a massive, crushing weight of pressure resting squarely on the shoulders of the remaining children of Tristan. Tayron had been forced to harden early, becoming the sharp, executing blade of the Redbeard empire while his brother drowned in wine.
"Enough of this little talks, let's talk business, Your Majesty," Tayron said abruptly. He lowered a heavy silver goblet of chilled midnight flower juice to the dark wood table, his crimson eyes locking onto the Ant King.
"Of course, Mr. Pirate Prince," Antares replied smoothly. He picked up a cloth from the table, casually cleaning his mouth as he finished the last of his spiced sea monster meat.
With a subtle, single flick of his fingers, Antares signaled for his attendants to vacate the pavilion. Tayron matched the gesture instantly, giving a sharp nod to his remaining deck hands. Within moments, the heavy canvas flaps closed, clearing the room of unnecessary ears.
The space had narrowed down to a localized arena of high-stakes diplomacy. They sat around a large, circular mahogany table, the layout perfectly balanced yet vibrating with hidden tension.
The Antmen Side: King Antares sat at the center. To his right was Yajin, his massive Ashfang frame casting a long shadow over the table, his tusks gleaming. To his left was Lady Sira, her robes perfectly arranged, her cyan eyes glowing with sharp intellect. Standing like a statue of iron directly behind them was Lord Commander Adam, his hand never straying far from his longsword.
The Redbeards Side: Prince Tayron sat alone at the opposite end of the hemisphere. He had chased away all the other pirates, remaining only with his two towering lion beastman guards. The massive guards stood perfectly still behind his chair, clad in dull-black iron armor, the heavy black chains around their necks rattling faintly whenever they exhaled their low, predatory growls.
For a long moment, neither side spoke. The silence stretched, thick and suffocating, as the two factions measured one another's resolve.
Antares broke the standoff. He casually gestured to a quiet cupbearer standing near the perimeter of the tent, pointing toward his empty vessel. The servant stepped forward with trembling hands, refilling his goblet to the brim with the deep, dark purple nectar of the midnight flower juice.
Antares picked up the silver cup, raised it slightly toward Tayron, and drank the entire contents in one clean, uninterrupted gulp. He slammed the goblet back onto the mahogany wood with a satisfying *thud*.
"Alright," Antares said, his dark eyes flashing with a sudden, vibrant energy. "Now, let's talk."
Tayron leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table. He was entirely unbothered by the piercing, lethal stares he was receiving from Yajin and Lady Sira, both of whom clearly viewed his casual posture and direct tone as deeply disrespectful to their Sovereign.
"I'll be plain, Your Majesty," Tayron asked, a confident, sharp smile playing on his lips. "What can you put on the table that is worth my coming to these shores? Tell me... why is the current Ant King here himself instead of another vassal who will represent your interest?"
"Some matters require my presence," Antares countered smoothly, gesturing to the cupbearer for another pour. He took a slow sip, his gaze locked onto the Prince. "Exactly like this one, Prince Tayron."
Antares shifted his eyes slightly to the side, giving Adam a silent, authoritative look.
Adam moved instantly. The firstborn Commander turned, striding out of the pavilion with heavy, armored footsteps. A moment later, he returned, carrying three massive, heavily reinforced leather travel bags. With a display of effortless strength, Adam lifted the heavy sacks and threw them onto the center of the mahogany table.
*THUD. CHINK.*
The heavy, metallic impact echoed through the tent, causing the silver goblets to rattle.
"What's this?" Tayron asked, his crimson eyes narrowing with sudden, intense curiosity as he looked at the tightly bound leather.
"Open them," Antares commanded simply.
Adam stepped forward. With swift, efficient movements, he sliced the thick ropes binding the tops of the bags and pulled the leather wide, tilting them toward the center of the round table.
The contents spilled across the dark mahogany like a cascading river of frozen light.
Jewelry of ancient, forgotten designs, master-cut emeralds the size of a fist, flawless diamonds that fractured the lamplight into a thousand rainbows, and strings of blood-red rubies filled the bags to the absolute limit, bursting onto the wood. The sheer, concentrated wealth radiating from the table was enough to buy a small fleet of warships.
"Hmmmmmmmm," Tayron murmured, his breath hitching slightly as his crimson eyes gleamed with an unmistakable, instinctual pirate greed. He reached out, picking up a massive sapphire ring and turning it over in his fingers. "Now this is what I like to see. We can definitely start something with this, Your Majesty."
Antares let out a low, amused chuckle at the immediate, transparent reaction of the pirate prince. Greed was a predictable compass, and it was currently pointing exactly where Antares wanted it to. But the King knew something Tayron didn't.
There was a lot more where that came from.
Inside the tower in the middle of the palace where Antares had originally acquired the sun artifact Helios, he had made a tactical, last-minute decision. Before sealing the chambers, he had ordered his men to pack as many of the jewels and precious stones as their frames could carry.
Currently, Antares had removed his heavy upper armor to acclimate to the heat. He sat in a fine, pristine white linen shirt, the loose fabric doing little to hide the dense, hyper-compressed muscle structure of his shoulders. His left hand rested casually on the table, where the golden artifact Helios was currently resting wrapped around his wrist in it's usual form of a bracelet.
With his right thumb, Antares slowly and rhythmically turned a grey metal ring resting on his left index finger. The ring was adorned with intricate, pulsing rune patterns, centered by a single, mesmerizing blue gemstone.
It was a storage ring he had salvaged from that very same palace tower. Right now, that spatial ring was filled to absolute capacity with the staggering wealth—a localized treasury that he intended to use to single-handedly fund the development of his isolated land.
"There is a lot more where that came from, my Prince," Antares said, a calm, knowing smile gracing his handsome features. Beside him, even Lady Sira and Yajin remained silent, wisely choosing not to question where their King had suddenly conjured an ancient empire's fortune from.
Antares leaned back, swirling the purple juice in his goblet. "And we have not even shown you the rare, high-grade monster parts we are currently processing in the North and the one we got as we traveled here. Furs, bones, and crystals. Truly a little fortune... wouldn't you say, Prince Tayron?"
Tayron forcibly pulled himself back, his posture instantly stiffening as he dropped the sapphire ring back onto the pile. The manic gleam of greed in his eyes was instantly replaced by the sharp, calculating focus of a true executive. He realized he wasn't dealing with an idiot as he had hoped. he was dealing with a fully funded king who possessed the capital to demand whatever he wanted.
"What do you want?" Tayron asked plainly, his voice dropping all pretense of casual banter.
Antares tapped his fingers against the silver of his goblet, his eyes drifting upward toward the canvas ceiling as if calculating a massive, infinite shopping list.
"Hmmmmmmmmmm, let me seeee..." Antares murmured, a dangerous, ambitious light blooming in his dark eyes.
